Abstract
The paper talks about various scientific journals and what content they publish. Scientific journals are known to be important avenues of passing scientific knowledge to different groups of people. Most scientific journals have a target audience that is attracted to it based on the content it publishes (Björk 15). The purpose of the article is to shine some light on the different journals and how they determine their content. To achieve this aim, the author conducts qualitative research on three journals. The first journal that the article talks about is the Journal of Medical Internet Research. The author mentions that the journal was the first, and at the time of publication of the article, the only “international scientific peer-reviewed journal on every aspect of research” (Moed 270). The article mentions that despite the word internet being present in the title of the journal; it also publishes original studies on developing, assessing, and applying non-internet technologies in the healthcare sector. The journal targets a broader readership than all the other articles that the author discusses in his article.
The next journal that the author of the article reviews is the Journal of Biomedical Informatics which was initially known as Computers and Biomedical Research but was restructured to portray a commitment to original quality papers in the field of biomedical informatics. Even though biomedical sciences applications motivate the journal, it focuses on reports of new techniques and methodologies that have general applications and that make the basis for the changing field of biomedical informatics.

The last journal that the article uses to arrive at its conclusion is one known as the Perspectives in Health Information Management. This is a peer-reviewed journal which aims at advancing the base of knowledge for the practice of information management and health informatics. The core focus of the journal is on creating a link between education, research, and practice and contributing to the improvement of the processes and outcomes of the practice of information management and health informatics. Because these journals are meant to educate people, the articles that are adopted for publishing have to be carefully reviewed by experts before they are published (Björk 23).
The research reveals that each of these journals discusses specific aspects of healthcare and targets a select group of people. Even though the first one is said to target a wide group of readers, it still addresses very specific topics in healthcare. Further review of some pieces of literature on the subject reveals that most prestigious scientific journals are indeed dedicated to specific areas in the field of science (Moed 273). Prestigious journals are specific with their content because they publish for a specific target audience. Top scholars also prefer to publish in these kinds of journals because they believe it would make their CVs look good and make their content available to other professionals in their areas of expertise (Moed 275). The author, without expressly mentioning in his article, hints that prestigious journals like the once he used as examples, do always address specific topics for specific target groups.
After reading the article, one can then make a few conclusions about journals. The first is that all journals, whether scientific or not, are meant to improve the knowledge base of the reader. The second conclusion that one can rightly make is that scientific journals are divided into different groups based on the content that they publish. To illustrate this, the author gives three different types of journals which publish different but related items. The third conclusion that one can draw from the article is that for any piece to make it into the peer-reviewed journals, it has to be reviewed by experts in the topic that it discusses.
