Personality and Stress
Stress is a feeling of pressure in response to internal or external threats to homeostasis. According to Hengartner, Linden, and Bohleber (2016), there is a relationship between personality, stress, and health. Personality is a generalized trait which is relatively stable that varies across individuals. The relationship between personality and stress is based on the impact of individual indifference in the intensity of response to a stressor and coping approach adopted by an individual facing a stressful situation. It is the only indifference that determines the level of stress a person might have whose symptoms can affect the body, behavior, and feeling of a person. The consequences of stress if unchecked can contribute to health problems such as blood pressure and heart diseases. In other words, personality is the main contributor to stress, and the prolonged effects of stress contributed to health problems.
Managing Stress
Managing stress in our daily lives is essential for maintaining our overall health. It helps us improve our mood, boost the immune function and allows us to be more productive. There are various strategies used to manage stress. One of the approaches is relaxation which involves the use of self-regulation strength. A continuous tensing and relaxing of different muscles throughout the body help in reducing stress. Another strategy is the use of signature strength.
