Abstract
The health care system in the United States has been having serious challenges over the last couple of years. A large population of the American population does not have insurance cover which makes healthcare quite expensive for them. During President Obama’s tenure, the Congress came up with ways of investing new fund that would help reduce the number of citizens without insurance cover, and this is how Obama care was born. Many health systems have been developed to try and help reduce the cost of healthcare services. The United States needs reforms since the rising cost of healthcare may end up spending the entire budget of the federal budget. Healthcare reforms will promote the quality of care that patients receive. It is surprising that the United States has the worst medical serviced yet it is a developed nation. Over 70% of the deaths in the country are caused by chronic diseases.

In the Last couple of years, the federal government has been putting billions of money in different programs with the aim of improving healthcare delivery. The United States needed to have a healthcare reform since the cost was going so high. Bankruptcy in the healthcare system affected over two million people and the rising cost of health care was consuming a large sum of the federal government. The increasing budget made preventive care unaffordable for most people.

For this reason, many of the low-income people landed in emergency rooms, making the cost to go even higher.
There are over eight hundred and fifty integrated healthcare delivery systems in the United States (Shi & Singh, 2014). These systems face many different challenges because they are evolving. Most of these systems are trying the best they can to offer user-friendly services that promote wellness and improves health. The United States health care system encounters significant challenges which are a clear indicator of why reform is needed. Over forty-six million Americans do not have medical insurance. However, the United States of America has a high chance of reducing the cost of the healthcare system and improve the medical outcome as well as the financial burden that its citizens have to bear (Brennan et al. 2009).
Insurance is the major financing mechanism and it has been misaligned in two main ways. One, the majority of the people are overinsured of some risks while others are underinsured. For this reason, the system is not able to offer incentive services for healthy behaviors, provide enough financial security, or promote consumption that is value conscious. Two, the providers of healthcare services have financial incentives to conduct many procedures as they can, which is an ill-equipped model in the management of the increasing chronic conditions. The misalignment is a recent phenomenon. Insurance is meant to cover random, infrequent and the unpredictable risks. However, over the years, this has changed and it now covers different services.
There is no need to have insurance cover for preventive care services such as screenings or vaccinations. However, these services are necessary for maintaining a healthy society. These kinds of services ought to be offered at a little charge or none at all to ensure that it is accessible for many people. Chronic conditions are the fastest growing healthcare risks. Addressing such medical risks requires major changes to be made in the current healthcare system (Adigozel, Pellathy & Singhal, 2009). A new mechanism of financing the services are required to change such conditions in a cost-effective manner. The mechanisms must be able to give the patients incentives that are based on behavioral-economic principles promoting healthy behavior.
Healthcare reforms are crucial in the U.S and the Affordable Care Act is a representation of how healthcare services should be offered in the country. According to this Act, the American citizens should have health care insurance and that the cost of healthcare should be reduced with time (Ray & Norbeck, 2017). The American Healthcare Act provides that Americans have the choice of the healthcare plans and taxes on the Affordable care act should be scrapped. The Affordable Care Act under Obama care was created to give coverage to the many uninsured people as possible through insurance exchanges. Over thirty million Americans are expected to gain health insurance services, thanks to the Affordable Care Act. The AHCA was meant to be a solution to the shortcoming of the ACA by eliminating any taxes and lowering the insurance companies’ burden so that they could offer affordable insurance. The bill would help reduce the Medicaid money that is flowing through a block grant to different states.
Once the healthcare system is reformed, it will become more efficient since hospitals will try and find new ways that will increase it. One important thing is for the hospitals to be renovated to help cut the cost. Medical reforms have enabled hospitals to develop new care models. For instance, they have moved away from the contemporary fee-for-service model, which had largely contributed to less spending for healthcare services (Amadeo, 2018). Healthcare is quite expensive and that is why most of the discussions on healthcare reform are based on trying to make insurance more accessible and available. Premium insurance cover guarantees a patient that their insurer will pay out in case of a medical emergency. Medicare is insurance offered by the federal government to subsidize healthcare for people who are over 65 years.
The United States health care system has been suffering from high level of inefficiency. According to a 2012 report, over 30% of health funding was wasted on administrative costs, fraud, and unnecessary services (Antos & Capretta, 2017). Many initiatives have been taken by healthcare organizations and providers to improve care delivery, but a striking degree of fragmentation is still evident. Improving efficiency in healthcare should be the central goal of any reform act. Actions that lead to continuous improvement should be put in place to ensure healthcare delivery productivity. The increase in cost of medical care has not been a guarantee of high-quality services and that is why the systems of delivery have been inefficient. The driving forces in other sectors of the country’s economy should be harnessed in the healthcare system as well to produce better outcomes. The country’s health system is one of the worst in the world and chronic diseases cause over 70% of deaths in the country.
