How Hamlet does not think of his actions
Hamlet is among William Shakespeare’s plays depicting tragedy. The guiding theme throughout the play is revenge in which Hamlet, from the time the play begins, seeks to kill Claudius, his uncle, with the view that he killed his father. Hamlet, the protagonist, is caught between two difficult choices that include the want to revenge his father’s death and moral integrity. Hamlet’s basic goal is to kill Claudius to avenge his father’s death in which he becomes blinded by the goal and hence making him not to think about his actions.
His desire to kill his uncle makes him act irrationally such that he results in the death of Polonius. In Act 3 when Polonius, who is behind a curtain, senses that the queen might be in danger, he makes an exclamation which prompts Hamlet to stab him. Hamlet states, “Nay, I know not: Is it the king?” (Shakespeare III Scene 4) when the queen questions what Polonius might have done. The scene depicts Hamlet not to think about his action whereby he attacks a shape behind the curtain without knowing who it is. It also depicts Hamlet’s timidity as he could not put an end to Claudius previously but without hesitation acts on a voice behind a curtain. Polonius death is tragic as it results in Ophelia’s madness and death.
Hamlet also acts rashly when he threatens his mother. He subtly views his mother as an adulterer without comprehending his mother’s reasons for being betrothed to Claudius.

He states;
She married. O, most wicked speed, to post
With such dexterity to incestuous sheets!
It is not, nor it cannot come to good.
But break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue. (Shakespeare I Scene 2)
He views her as similar to Claudius who became king as soon as his brother died. The view is what makes Hamlet want to kill her.
As stated earlier, Hamlet’s basic goal is to kill Claudius to avenge his father’s death in which he becomes blinded by the goal and hence making him not to think about his actions. Some of his irrational actions include killing Polonius and threatening his mother. In the end, he becomes a victim of his actions such that he dies.
