Indeed, in this digital era, a lot has changed in the music industry from the time of pre-conception of the internet. During the last part of the 20th century, the global recorded music industry was at its peak which prevailed for the most quarter of the century. However, things started changing for the industry when Shawn Fanning lead group teen hackers who stirred up the unpredictable motion that ultimately destabilized the music industry foundations. Thanks to the advancing digital age, the hackers enabled to download and sharing of music without legal compensation of the copyright owners. Although the Napster eventually ceased operating, other new file sharing soon emerged and further caused menace for music industry establishment. Although the traditional music industry applied stricter approaches, both legally and technically to prevent the online-piracy distribution services, for instance, The Pirate Bay, Napster, Grokster, Kazaa, DC++ and Limewire, the mechanism failed to achieve its purpose.
The music industry crucial configuration consists of three main music sub-industries with roles of recording, licensing and business planning and live entertainment.

The recorded music holds the largest share of the three sub-industries in the pre-Internet music production, thus more revenue. The distribution control loss and the unchecked online piracy during the digital era has extremely affected the recorded music industry. Comparatively, the other two sub-industries initially were remained unaffected. With all those setbacks experienced in the previous decade, the music industry went an extra mile at the outset of the 21st century restrain online piracy. Nevertheless, the music industry players were not in the same way determined and creative enough to develop innovative models for legalized streaming of recorded music. 
As a result, the Apple Computers Company pioneered a successful online service to legalized sales and distribution. In 2003, Apple convinced the major music labels that consumers would be made to buy music legally by offering simple online purchase service of the downloaded music for a dollar for every track in their invented service the iTunes Music Store. Similarly, in the digital age, music establishment, for instance, collection and ownership progressively become more extraneous in the distribution and worldwide music access. Considering this observation, the most important concern is the new role the recorded music as a distinctiveness indicator in the music industry plays in the digital age of music distribution. Therefore, internet music streaming via online privacy is the biggest hurdle for the music industry although there are some measures the continuously advancing technology still pose a threat in the music distribution.
