1). Which article did you read? Which statistics did you find more interesting/ surprising? Why?
In income inequality analysis paper, the article read was about the “40 years of income inequality in America in Graphs”. This article provides various statistics regarding the level gaps in the distribution of the incomes among the individuals and households in the United States. In this case, the most surprising statistics was the large income inequalities that exist among the different households in the country. The statistics indicate that, despite the increasing incomes of the household after the adjustments in the inflationary levels, the income gaps remained at higher levels (National Public Radio). This was attributed to the differences in the levels of education from high school, diploma and bachelor’s degree levels.
2). Choose one of the income distribution graphs (by age, education level, etc.) and offer a brief interpretation. How does this graph relate to concepts from Chapter 12 (for example, Poverty Rates, Lorenz Curves/ Gini Coefficients)?
In this case, the analysis shall be conducted against the income distribution graphs mainly basing on the education level. The graphs relate to the poverty rates in such way that individuals with lower levels of education such as those who have attained only high school have lower incomes as compared to their counterparts with diplomas and bachelor’s degrees (National Public Radio).

This implies that, the more the level of education of an individual or household, the more incomes earned. So, there are always differences in the incomes earned in a case that individuals with lower levels of education earner lesser than those with a higher level such as Bachelor’s degree due to the nature of jobs and skills.
3). What has happened to U.S. income inequality over time? What do you think are the most compelling reasons why this might be the case?
Over time, there has been an increase in the cases of income inequality in the United States. Many researchers and academicians link this to the non-inclusive government policies which have brought about differences in the levels of educations among the Americans more especially between the individuals from poor backgrounds and those from rich backgrounds. More so, non-inclusive health care policies with limited insurance cover which has made the medication prices too high and almost unaffordable to the majority of the poor people in the country.
4). How concerned do you think Americans should be about income inequality? What can/ should the government do to combat it?
The Americans should be much concerned about the increasing problem of income inequality due to the negative effects associated with it that outweigh its positive ones such as social unrests in the society. However, the government should subsidize the education sector or provide more grants that can make educational services more affordable to all nationals regardless of their backgrounds.
