Leftover Food in America
The debate on leftover food in America has attracted a lot of attention from various stakeholders including the government, government agencies, and advocacy groups as well as the members of the public. The main reason for the concern is due to surveys that have shown that majority of households in the United States throw away a lot of food regarding leftovers and spoilt produces. According to a study by the food waste coalition ReFED, an estimated 27 million tons of food are wasted each year with its effect costing the economy more than $ 144 billion a year (Dewey). Consequently, the main problems associated with food wastage other than income include clogging landfills as well as emission of greenhouse gases and pollution of the surrounding environment. In short, this proposal is for research on the issue of leftover food in America and how the problem could be solved.
Contrarily, the purpose of the paper will be to explain the problem of food wastage in America with the aim of creating awareness to the population and sensitive them on how they could reduce food wastage in their households. In the explanation, the proposal will provide statistical data on the number of resources wasted in the form food thrown away. Additionally, the paper will analyze the problems incorporating the causes and how it started to provide the basis for the recommendation and convincing the audience that this is a significant problem that needs an immediate solution.

The third purpose is to argue that there are various methods that could be utilized to reduce food wastage in the form of leftovers and spoilt produce. Besides, studies have indicated that a majority of the population throw away food because they do not have channels of donating them to the needy.
The argument will be to convince the audience that food wastage is becoming costly regarding pollution or through greenhouse emission. Therefore, everyone should try as much as possible to correct the situation in their small way. Furthermore, being a college research paper the target audience for the paper are my fellow students, and as well as the professors. I believe that this audience is enough to start the change as they make a portion of the United States population and I believe a good number of them can also relate to the issue. Besides, some of the audiences come from a household which is among the population that throws away food each year. My voice is to inform the audience about the problem as well as to advocate for solutions through recommendations on other ways of avoiding food wastage.
Finally, the thesis for this paper is that food wastage in America could be reduced as long as there are sensitization and creation of awareness to the public about the issue and alternatively provided on varying ways of disposing of leftover food. The first solution is that the government should intervene through civic education on the problem of throwing of leftovers and how it is hurting the economy and also inform them on the various ways to tackle the problem such as enlightening them on the better preservation methods. The second solution is that the government and other stakeholders should come up with accessible channels for dating the excess food since a majority indicated that they result to throwing away food since they do not know where to donate them.
