Garrison, one of the most revered abolitionists, had a very radical view about the end of slavery. There are a number of instances in his speech that identifies him as a radical abolitionist. At the start of his speech, Garrison vehemently calls out the Union for associating itself with the Southern states, which he refers to as thieves and robbers. He views them as women-beaters and men-stealers. It does not augur well with him that the South is holding the North at ransom with regards the calls to end slavery. He calls them out for being despotic and a brutal slave oligarchy. Another evidence of Garrison’s radical approach to slavery abolition comes at the end of his letter when he urges his followers “to march forward without fear, heart to heart, and hand to hand, because the abolitionists’ stand is of Christ, and those that might perish in the process will be martyrs” (Brands et al. 87).
According to Garrison, the best way to abolish slavery is by dissolving the “slavery-cursed union.” This was the best way of exercising the few liberties that they still possessed. He did not believe that the North and the South should walk together unless they agreed on the need to end slavery. He urged fellow abolitionists in the North to tell off the remorseless and inexorable Southern tyrants that the conditions they were imposing on the North, whereby they were indirectly making them responsible for slavery existence, which was highly inhumane, and they could not continue bearing their burden for the sake of the Union.

Garrison believed that the radical dissolution of the Union would be the final blow to the slavery system in the US and that when slavery is done away with, a strong, enduring, and vital Union will be created from the Atlantic to the Pacific, where all people would be free.
