Migration to the Cloud
Requirements to Migrate an App to the Cloud and What to Consider
The transition from in-house data storage and back to the cloud can be tedious and frustrating if proper measures are not put in place to reduce the challenges associated with the migration. Adequate planning is therefore essential for this process. Highlighted below are some of the requirements and items that the company should consider to have a smooth transition.
First, it should consider resource usage and availability. The company should analyze the actual usage of software and application to inform the minimum required resources that can support its client base. This is to help in reducing overusing or underusing the cloud base environment. Secondly, it should consider whether the new service provider provides licensing per core, VM or for the entire infrastructure. The best alternative will be subscribing services from a provider who offers to license of the whole infrastructure because it is cost-effective compared to component-based one (Brophy, 2016). Thirdly, the company should consider mechanisms through which it will access data from the cloud servers, whether to use IP addresses or DNS entries. The fourth requirement to consider is data security. Moving to cloud storage exposes the client’s data to cyber threats. For this reason, the company should consider security policies that will be compliant and complement the cloud system.

Wait! Migrating to the Cloud paper is just an example!

Fifthly, the company should consider the financial ability and the longevity of the service provider (Datardina, 2015). Small-scale providers with little experience may not be the best option to host the services of a client company that serves a considerable number of customers. The sixth consideration is the involvement of stakeholders. Internal changes can only be smooth only if significant stakeholders are involved in the process (Datardina, 2015). Without their satisfaction, opposition is bound to happen which may consequently slow the process. Finally, the company should consider its financial capability. It should select packages that it can comfortably afford.
