I had just turned eighteen and felt like I had just started my adult life. For so many years I had always wanted to feel like an adult. My parents, on the other hand, had always warned me of wanting to experience everything in just one day of my eighteenth birthday. However, a part of me was excited due to the plans we had made with my friends to ran off without the consent of our parents, after all, we were adults. The day broke with much sunshine and hope such that no one thought something could go wrong. My friends came over, and we concluded our plans. We decided to sneak and have a party in the nearby woods that had been closed off after some had disappeared for months without a trace. All we wanted is to break the rules and enjoy the thrill of taking care of ourselves. We slipped out of the house and headed to the woods.
Once we reached the woods, the winds blowing on our faces was an encouragement that we were made to break the rules. As soon as we entered the woods, we started hearing strange noises approaching us. We huddled together until we saw a red-eyed animal coming towards us. Everyone sprinted in various directions. After running for some minutes, I realized I was in a dark part of the forest, and I couldn’t see any of my friends. I tried shouting, but I could only get an echo from the trees that seemed to be mocking me. I immediately knew I was lost and probably would never be found again. I regretted having defied my parents’ warnings.

I wandered in the darkness for hours until I saw a forest patrol vehicle. The officers immediately took me into custody and headed to the nearest station. While sitting in the cell for trespassing, I felt saddened by what I had done and the worry that I had caused my parents. That day changed my life, and I decided to take one day at a time.
