Pablo Escobar

The death of the drug lord Pablo Escobar left an immortal slogan: ’hasta la Victoria siempre’ which means that one should always strive towards victory. He managed to expose the greed of the rich who ruled as well as show a good example to others who had no hope in life. This is the story of an individual who ascended to the very top notch via shrewd and dirty means but all the same still had an impact in the lives of many. The rich were scared of him, but the poor loved him for what he was to them. In this way. Escobar touched the lives of both poor and rich though in a different manner. On moral grounds, the issue can be debated and debated in a way that it will not end since conservatives would argue against Escobar and his means. They would argue that he was not morally upright to be involved in the wrong side of the law. However, it should never be forgotten that he used bad means to show a good way. One would also lambast him for being too daring, but he was left with no other option.
For a government that is ruled by treacherous means, he is fully justified in what he was doing. Escobar challenged the established norms which were unfavourable to the majority of the society. Love him or hate him he is a hero and will always be remembered as the man who once put Colombia in the spotlight. Though engaging on internationally banned narcotics, Escobar provided jobs and livelihood for the many. The mainstream society had it that the few who were rich deserved to rule and hence were considered as the ruling class.

There was simply a gulf in class between the rulers and the ruled. These individuals cheated the society into believing that they were leaders, but this was not the case. They were simply bourgeoisie. His death also exposed fault in the government and leadership. After he had died there were no jobs for many people that he had employed. It thus resulted into an increase in crimes as the people who once worked for him turned rogue. The government could not offer a permanent solution for the people and their jobless conditions. Hypocrisy was at its best, and it is safe to say that they simply did not want any challenge and hence eliminated Escobar.
In conclusion, Escobar’s life left a mythical feeling in Colombia in the way that I was eventful, impactful and dangerous. He was a revolutionary and open-minded individual who would stop at nothing but attain justice for the poor and the weak in the society. He really dedicated his whole life into helping the poor. No wonder he was a philanthropist as seen by how he used to give grocery to the poor people of Medellin. Violence became the norm of the day and was part of democracy all thanks to cocaine usage. Escobar was like a father figure to the society and left the people feeling like orphans once he was confirmed dead. The government had also tried a countless number of times to fake his death. This very fact proves that he was a key figure in the liberation of Colombia from the clutches of the greedy rich.
Part two: political and social impacts of narcotics
Narcotics being drugs that change the way a person behaves through affecting the physiological process have a great impact in both the political and social arenas. The story of Pablo Escobar’s life and death demonstrates this phenomenon. Socially, Colombia was divided into classes, but this individual demonstrated that drugs could be used to bridge the gap. The gulf between the rich and the poor was no longer there when Escobar was alive. Narcotics can be used to bring richness and bond people together. The poor in their own world of poverty bonded together and managed to engage each other in happiness as spearheaded by the drug lord. He formed many self-help groups that the people would meet in and discuss their lives. The groups were meant to take care of the welfare of the slum dwellers of Medellin. Thus, despite being neglected by the government which was driven by the greed of the few in leadership positions, the poor would still manage to plan their lives. The government did not want this top take place and tried as much as it could to crush the narcotics business in Medellin. They finally achieved their target by killing Pablo Escobar in a very inglorious manner.
When someone speaks the truth in a society that is ruled and led by greed, they will never be loved as Escobar came to find out. Politically, speaking both the truth or false the society usually becomes polarised all the time. Narcotics can make or break a society by their impacts beginning from an individual level. Narcotics polarised the political arena during the life period of Pablo Escobar in the way that he was constantly at logger heads with the leaders and relentlessly challenging the established norms. The established norms at the time were that the mainstream society should accept to be ruled by the few who had ascended to the mantle of leadership without questioning the leadership. Nothing was to change and it was supposed to remain that way eternally. The law always goes hand in hand with politics as seen in the case of Escobar. The leaders had to use everything within their power to stop the dealings of narcotics.
In conclusion, there are a lot of impacts of narcotics on the society. Politically and socially, narcotics can bring people into conflicts with each other. When one has got abilities to change a nation and keep quiet, they would not be doing any moral justice to themselves and the society. This is the main reason why I accept what Escobar was doing in the way that he used all that was within his power to try and have a positive impact on the political scene of Colombia in the late 20th century. Narcotics can also render a society dangerous and risky in the way that crime was a part of the dealings of Escobar if the government is honest. Having to dodge police and sometimes kill so as to make sure the business is still on does not make sense at all. Even if it is to tackle unfairness, having to be unfair first is also wrong from a humanity point of view. Though, philosophically, it makes a lot of sense as one kills a few but saves a lot.
