Lifelong experiences exert pressure on individuals. As human beings, we all tend to crave for attention, affection and the sense of belonging. When I joined my freshman year in college, I wanted to fit in and make friends who I could be around for the rest of my time in college. During my orientation, I met a few friends but got close to a fellow freshman, Betty.
Later in the week, I met a bunch of former high school friends who were a year ahead of me. Excited but scared to go to parties, I invited my friend Betty to join me. The party was exciting and fun I felt like I finally fitted into a “gang.” However, things got a little out of hand with Betty having a little too much to drink. I felt irritated. All persons in the party got agitated, seeking to leave to get away from the shameful acts of Betty. The pressure was to huge, influencing my decision to leave Betty. The bitter decision still lingers in my mind. What was worse is that later that month my roommate transferred to another room and Betty became my new roommate. It felt terrible.
Lack of self -confidence might be the reason why people may continue to succumb to peer pressure in life. The fear of not being accepted for who you are and not having friends. Adults also experience peer pressure (Steinberg et al., 2007). However, as one continues to age, peer pressure continues to reduce, but it does not completely fade. However, the person is in a better position to understand that there are better and far more essential things in life than maintaining friendships.

Wait! peer pressure paper is just an example!

Individuals who are independent thinkers may have had the chance to learn and master the independence at a tender age where they were able to gain confidence and learn to accept themselves first (Steinberg et al., 2007).
