The mismatch as described refers to the difference in quality information gathered by the public and that used by politicians to meet the needs of people they represent. Precisely, from the analysis, we get to understand that general public is far much liberal than their representatives basing on the issues they address. Public opinion communicates the needs and interests, wishing leaders would push forward and implement the presented agendas to impact vast democratic developments. However, public demand is disregarded as the politicians do not exercise what the poll expects, therefore causing a mismatch between popular sentiments and the mainstream policy. When public opinion is observed keenly, there are revealed broad support for a range of liberal systems, and this include increased spending from the government. Despite this widespread support of the public for liberal policy on a depth of economic forces, the polls’ representatives are more conservatives. The analysis, therefore, informs that political systems have problems and politicians may not be as strong as people would think they are, to exercise the opinions of ordinary people.
The use of poll in United State is said to be undemocratic because politicians perform what they think is right for the people. When leaders neglect the role that they were voted to do, it raises the questions about the proper influences and the use of public opinion (Broockman & Skovron, 2017).

The democracy force citizens to ask why there is a mismatch between people’s demand and actual policies pursued by political representatives. Yes, there is a contradiction since public opinion is being distorted in manners that undermines genuine democratic participation. Individuals like politicians, corporates or the media have mandated to retain their status quo to satisfy their interdependent concerns, and this reflects how the public enjoys less democracy.
Political influence is one of the forces that get in the way of media objectivity. Typically, it gets argued that news organization are biased serving, as they serve as the eyes and ears of the government instead of informing the citizens. In other instances, the media do not report the survey data as mandated by politicians. The attempt is to avoid disclosing coverage of specific figures concerning public issues, which would result in individuals deducing conclusions about the lagging effort of representatives. Leaders feel that the amount of information aired to citizens poses threats to their political positions and therefore they influence the mainstream for a coverup.
Economic gain is another force that influences media coverage, therefore, causing an objective distortion. In circumstances where politicians fund the news organizations, the ownership and control become compromised creating a built-in bias due to elite orientation (Broockman & Skovron, 2017). The elites have exceptional access to media and will manipulate its primary objectives since in political systems there is power and money to set how the press should communicate. Leaders are more conservative than citizens. Thus, they access, alters and shapes the media in a more substantial conservative direction. As a result, the press coverage narrows their ideological spectrums to the basis of economic issues, creating an impression that leaders are attending their assigned duties. Additionally, the media sometimes desire to have their work recognized by making their articles appear on the front page. Being driven by such interests would comprise the objectives of the press as they would concentrate their focus on quantity rather than quality.
