Perception and Facial Recognition
The argument that the properties of the environment have shaped our perceptional system means that the manner in which one receives and coordinate information from the environment to make sense of his/her surrounding is influenced by the properties of the environment they have interacted with (Gibson, 2013). For example, people living in areas that are prone to flooding will most likely perceive rain as a signal of the start of danger while the same rain will be perceived as a blessing by people in the dry area. Likewise, thunder may be associated with rain only on a cloudy day.
Strengths and limitations of human facial recognition
The superiority of human facial recognition arises from the strengths of the human brain compared to computers. As opposed to computerized facial recognition, human facial recognition automatically adjusts for changes of the face that result from aging, minor injuries and weight gain (Jafri & Arabnia, 2009). Moreover, human facial recognition only requires one to have the frontal view of the face, unlike the computer facial recognition which requires multiple angles to identify a face (Jafri & Arabnia, 2009). The major limitation of human facial recognition is the capacity. There is a limit to the number of faces that the human brain can recognize.
Reasons why Facial Recognition is Difficult for Computers
Some of the problems that make facial detection challenging for computers and not humans arise from the fact that computer face recognition depends mostly on the condition of image acquisition (Jafri & Arabnia, 2009).

Computers do not adjust for changes in the condition of the face such as the presence of a hat, aging, addition or loss of facial fat, and mutilations which reduce their ability to recognize the face.
