The social relationship between the infants and the primary caregivers is very important. In the first six months, a robust emotional link called attachment is formed between the primary caregivers and the infants. The primary caregivers may be the father, mother, nanny, grandparent, or a day care provider. Children raised up in histrionically diverse environments can mature to have unusually similar personalities in future, and children sharing a home and raised up in an identical environment can develop to have very diverse personalities. Therefore, it has been difficult to identify the concrete effects of the links between precise actions of parents and future conduct of their children. However, the parent’s effect on child development has attracted the attention of developmental psychologists. With numerous research, developmental psychologists have concluded that there are links between parenting styles and the effects these styles have on children. Therefore this essay will discuss the parenting style I experienced and the contribution of this parenting style in my life.
When I was a toddler, my primary caregivers were my mother and my father. Both could guide me on what to do and what to avoid. My parents often explained and gave me reasons why I should take a specific direction or behave in a given manner. My father would tell me “My child, I give you instructions to follow but you still have a chance to correct me. Feel free to speak your mind, and I will consider your concerns.

” Also, my parents could give me room to challenge their rubrics. They always listened to my views and considered them positively. My parents never punished me but instead used positive consequences to show me the way. They would often reward and praise me. Both my father and my mother offered me self-discipline and often stepped in when there was a serious problem. However, they could not allow bad behaviors and always encouraged me to share with them about my problems. When taking meals at our home, my father and my mother would have one after the other talk to me as if I were their friend. My mother would ask me, “How was your day my dear?” Since my parents could give me strict instructions to follow and considered my feelings when setting limits, I would categorize their parenting style as authoritative.
My parent’s parenting style affected my behavior. The authoritative parenting style that my parents used helped me grow up to a responsible adult who can evaluate safety risks and make good decisions. This parenting style developed me in a way that I always feel comfortable when expressing my opinions. My parent’s authoritative parenting style gave me a successful and a happy life. My parents are honest, hardworking, religious, obey rules, and they are good decision makers. I possess most of my parent’s characteristics and therefore, the future behavior of a child depends on the parenting style that the primary caregiver enforces.
Therefore, children behavior, social development, and future abilities to solve problems depend on the parenting styles that the primary caregiver adopts. In the past, parents were the sole primary caregivers to their children, but this has changed over years. Parents are now employing other people to take care of their children. However, parents should make efforts to nature their children by spending much time with them. This will make the children learn much from their parent’s behavior and hence help them in their future endeavors.
