Identifying an Area of Interest
Name
Institution Affiliation
Research Area of Interest
My research area of interest from NR 500 is the intermittent self-catheterization. I have chosen to explore the most cost-effective and clinical intervention between the single-use non-coated catheters versus single-use gel reservoir catheters. My MSN program specialty track is education. My research area is consistent with my specialty truck there is the need to develop a body of knowledge that will promote the best practices and help health-care professionals in recommending the most cost-effective and appropriate interventions for patients who are performing intermittent self-catheterization. Different catheter methods and materials are available (Bermingham et al., 2013). The area of research has been selected because currently there isn’t a consensus on appropriate methods to incorporate patients’ preferences for particular treatments that are not reflected in the “decisions at the population level within the standard, cost-effective approach” (Casey, Cullen & Crotty, 2013). One way of incorporating the patient’s preference is to adopt a 2-part decision process that gives them the cost-effective interventions plus other cheaper options.
I wouldn’t change my area of research because currently, intermittent self-catheterization my major concern in line with my MSN. I believe the type of catheter needs to be guided by research as well as the patient’s choice. It’s a way of improving best practices while upholding the most stringent measures to minimize the risk of infections.

PICOT Explanation
Population It will involve a heterogeneous section of the populace that encompasses individuals aged over the age of 16 years, patients with injuries to the spinal cord, patients using wheelchairs, individuals of advanced ages of both genders, both males, and females.
Intervention The intervention will be either single-use gel reservoir or single-use non-coated catheters depending on the cost-effectiveness.
Comparison The research will compare single-use gel reservoir and single-use non-coated catheters.Outcome Symptomatic and bacteremia associated and urinary tract infections, patient preference and comfort, mortality, clinical symptoms relating to urethral damage, and quality of life.
Time A one-year minimum trial period is needed.
