Question 1
The Importance of Social Behavior
The way employees behave in their workplace has a corresponding effect on the output of the organization and consequently its success. It follows that how each employee behaves also impacts many areas of the job and can impact the firm’s productivity either positively or negatively. On the one hand, the undesirable social behaviors could lead to loss of jobs and low morale. On the other hand, acting professionally results in individual career growth and many other benefits for the company.
As asserted by many organizational behavior experts, workers are the face of any organization, and outsiders form a perception of the organization based on staff’s behavior. If the employees portray a good company image, more clients will be lured to bring their business to the organization due to the satisfaction they derive from the employees’ good behavior. More clients will imply more revenue and perhaps increased salaries for employees. Conversely, when employees do not uphold professionalism and good social behavior, customers will turn away, leading to low revenues (Muafi, 2011).
It is also true that proper etiquette, high level of professionalism and respect on the part of the employees leads to cohesiveness. Such employees can work towards shared company objectives. Unfortunately, when employees don’t exhibit professionalism, it may lead to resentment, animosity and low morale. I once took a part-time job where bullying and harassment by the supervisors was the modus operandi of the company.

As a result, the work environment was often characterized by scenes of hostility, unhappy and unsettled employees. Consequently, this led to high rates of absenteeism and staff turnover. Undoubtedly, such work environment can only result in low productivity.
To avoid the negative implications associated with unprofessional behaviors, experts recommend that organizations need to adopt a specific organizational culture (Appelbaum, Iaconi, & Matousek, 2007). Also, employees should observe themselves and resist any urge to act unprofessionally. Further, while acknowledging that personalities, leadership style, and characters may differ, experts recommend that all employees should work jointly with others to realize goals. Additionally, they advocate for good working relationships, listening to others, and offering feedback.
Question 2
After reviewing the opportunities available for entrepreneurs in America, I feel that I should venture into business. Thanks to the SBA website, I now realize that entrepreneurship can be a thrilling journey, especially for young people like me who are about to graduate from college. This is because irrespective of the level of education and funding, one can easily start a business considering that SBA offers a wide range of support services including funding provided the idea is viable.
As an aspiring entrepreneur, first I would like to work for an established entrepreneur especially those in the retail business. Working for an entrepreneur will give me an opportunity to earn a salary while at the same time developing several skills that are key to entrepreneurship. In this regard, a retail store will allow me to interact with customers who are looking for certain items. In the process, I will develop people skills which are at the heart of any business. What is more, unlike a white-collar job, working with a small entrepreneur will allow me to take as much responsibility as possible. In turn, I will acquire other fundamental skills such as marketing skills, communication skills, operations, accounting skills and much more.
In the meantime, I will start researching and planning about types of businesses I can start. This step is crucial because some reports show that about 40% of businesses fail due to lack of a market. My job will help me identify other market opportunities in the retail sector. Additionally, I will create a business plan which will guide me through every level of the business (SBA, nd). I will also select the business format and structure for my business. Once I have identified a business opportunity and completed my business plan, I will then hand in my resignation and start running my own business.
