Plot Twist
It was dark and chilly. All I could feel was the nabbing pain in my ankle after I had slid and fell off a ditch. My mind was racing, and I could not help but think of my warm bed at home. I remembered how for many times I had taken sleeping soundly in my bed for granted. I felt that I missed the soft touch of my duvet. The thoughts were now making the pain disappear as I drifted further into the dreamland. All I wanted was to lie on a warm bed and forget all the woes that had befallen me. By now, I knew nobody would find me after I had seen a cave to spend the night. Amidst the fantasies, I wondered how I had gotten to the moment I was.
The day had started sunny, and I could feel that it was going to be a memorable one. I had woken up early to prepare for the long day ahead of me. My friends and I had decided to take a hike to a nearby mountain range. The range was filled with many and breathtaking scenery, according to the flier we had collected at the local grocery store. At around 9 o’clock I rang my friends to confirm the rendezvous point. I quickly showered and clad in comfortable shoes and hiking gear. I had looked forward to this day since I saw the flier. I pulled out of the driveway and headed to meet my friends.
My friends greeted me with much excitement and zeal as they hopped into the back seats of the vehicle. Since we were not familiar with the terrain of the ranges, I had arranged for a local tour guide to meet us at the designated parking area .

As we drove, we chatted about how we had always wanted to reach the furthest into the surrounding vegetation. The range was surrounded by thick vegetation that could easily entangle anyone who was not familiar with the terrain. As we approached, I called the tour guide who said he would arrive in the next ten minutes. We decided to wait for him in the parking lot.
After thirty minutes, the guide had not arrived. We tried contacting him to no avail. His phone redirected our calls to voicemail. One of my friends suggested that we should follow the trail and explore the ranges. Without much debate, we decided to guide ourselves. We followed the marked trail as we gave stories. We were so engrossed in the conversations such that we were not attentive to the paths that we followed. After walking for an hour were we now deep in the forest. The trees towered over us like giants letting in beams of light. We continued without wondering why we had not met any other people hiking. We thought that it was a privilege that we had the entire jungle to ourselves.
We had now gotten deeper into the thickets of the forest. One of my friends suggested that we should head home since it was getting late. However, we had not marked the trail that we had followed after we came to the junction with branching trails. We decided to follow the most likely path that would lead us back to the parking area. As we walked, sounds of water hitting rocks were becoming more audible. In a few minutes, we reached the source of the water sounds. It was now getting dark, and the water was glistening in the evening sun. We decided to take a break as we retraced our steps. Just as we sat down, we heard twigs breaking and a growling sound. I felt chills running up my spine as my eyes locked with two fiery looking animals. We all froze.
I decided to take flight and jump into the waterfall and swim to the other bank. I felt a sharp pain as my body hit the water and my feet hit the rocks in the bottom of the river. However, my adrenaline enabled me to swim to the other side. As I reached the bank, I could not see any of my friends. I tried calling their names to no avail. I decided to walk along the river as I find my way. The river bank was filled with slippery rocks that I continually slipped and fell. Darkness was falling quickly, and I had no hope of finding my way home. The forest, on the other hand, was filled with howling and buzzing of nocturnal insects. As I walked, I saw a cave and decided to spend the night there as I waited for someone to come looking for me.
I entered the cave and lay on a corner that had well-grown moss. The moss reminded me of my warm bed at home and how I had always taken it for granted. Strangely, I could not feel the cold; it is as if I had a layer of warmth surrounding me. As I tried to sleep, I felt an animal enter the cave. The creature walked towards me as I prepared to be devoured, I closed my eyes as the beast opened its mouth. I felt my face being touched by warm saliva and decided to open my eyes only to be met by a familiar face of my dog. I was so relieved to realize it was all a dream after I fell asleep in our backyard.
