Career GoalMy desire to selecting a nursing career was because of past experiences that caused me to appreciate its merits and the field. My first goal as a Nurse is to ensure that all patients assigned to me receive the best quality timely treatment. I would assist all physicians that I would work under during various diagnostic tests and different medical procedures. It will be my responsibility to educate the patient and his or her designated family member assigned to me on medical issues such as the patient’s disease and possible ways to manage it by following the physician’s instructions. Once a person has already completed his or her associate or bachelor program, it is his or her responsibility to work hard to become successful. Today we shall discuss some of the things you can do to become the best in the field of nursing.
You should purpose to be attending conferences, and educational sessions because they are essential and will help you to be up to date with your practice and increase your knowledge in the area of your specialization. Also, ensure you subscribe to various nursing journals that are in your field to remain knowledgeable concerning any new research and developments in your practice.
As a nurse, it is essential to do your best to maintain professionalism. Leave your life issues or baggage at home do not carry it to work. Also do not subject your patients or co-workers to your negative behavior or attitudes, if you are not happy with your current job switch to another nursing area. There are various nursing units to work in, and no nurse should be mean or grumpy.
When working in a particular hospital, it is significant to become an active staff member. For example, join different committees and contribute in meetings related to your field specialty. Pitch in and assist other people in your section. Be quick to report any hazardous situation before it occurs. Always suggest to your manager how to improve the assigned department. It essential to understand when to request for assistance.
As a nurse, you should be very good at documentation. Learn about the hospital policies and ensure you are documenting essential information required of you. Learn to create personalized patient charts. Do not just click boxes because you might be requested to give information about a patient several years later.
It is significant to embrace novel nurses because they are the next generation nurses who will replace us after retirement. The new nurses are not meant to make our lives difficult or annoy us. Documentation of Utilization of Innovative TeachingNutritional intakes are one of the best ways of managing diabetics. Therefore, I do not impose on the patient what they should eat. However, together with the patient, we design an individualized plan for his or her meals. To be able to achieve the best nutritional intake levels I try to find out the foods the patient likes or dislikes and his or her cultural background. For example, I ask the patient to explain some of the significance of food in their family. Are there any foods that your culture does not allow you to eat? What is your community’s staple food? Which are the foods you like or dislike? From the patient’s answers, it has helped me and the patient come up with a meal plan that has turned out to be very useful in the patient’s diabetics management process. The reason being the patient is involved in making the decision, and therefore the meal plan is based on their preference and not mine.
