I interviewed Hamilton Tommy who was great sugarcane farmer and a herbalist at the same time too. The interview this guy was one of the most interesting interviews that I have ever got to experience in my life. It was a quick show that quite gave me a good story about how life can change and how hard work can pay too. He informed me that he started farming when he was just 17 years old; this is when he started professional farming. All along in his life he had always wished to be a very great farmer and he started to practice the same just a simple helper to his father who was also a farmer when he was young. He informed me that while young, his father was his greatest hero and thus opted to follow the same path as the father too. His life was never simple when young, they always woke up very early in the morning to leave for the fields and they started a day by first collecting some special leaves that were treated as herbal medicines for various diseases that were great at the time. He stated to me that the father always explained to him each and every herb that they collected and the diseases that each herb also did treat as such. To him this was not a hobby as they had to strain so much for them to be able to get some herbs. His father then later died when he was just 16 years and as the eldest in the family he had all these roles pilling up on his shoulder and there was absolutely no way that he was going to escape them as well.

He therefore decided to get into the business fully despite the fact that he was of a lesser age at the time as such. He opted to collect all his brothers and try educating them on some of the things that he had learned from his father all along. Though a school going student at the time he always made sure that everything was right at home before leaving for school any morning. He made sure that in the morning, he inspected the farms and left instructions for the workers who were to work on the farms before he could step out of the house. He went to the university to study pharmacy so that he could be able to specialize in herbal medicine, as he always wanted to practice something that he had been in contact with since he was born. At the university he specialized in the area of interest and within three years he was through with the course and was now back home as a pharmacist; his interest more was to help the society around and to advocate more for accessible medical facilities in the whole region. He has always been very vibrant in the society and has always made sure that his voice that has been considered to be the voice of the voiceless in the province comes out and defends the right of the poor in the society as such. He still maintains his life as a farmer too since this is something that he has grown knowing and at the same time has very great passion over the same.
