Increased awareness of the phenomenon of parenting has led to a proportional increase in the resources channeled towards understanding it. Perhaps one of the most tangible outcomes of this is the creation of various canons of parenting, including the establishment of at least three different and distinct models of parenting. These are to wit; permissive, authoritarian and authoritative parenting models. The former refers to a lax approach to parenting with the concerned parent displaying lethargy towards enforcing instructions. On the other hand, the latter parenting models refer to a more hands-on approach, albeit with a slight difference. In the authoritative model, a parent displays a knack for a reason and logical explanations whereas in the authoritarian model, parenthood takes a more dictatorial approach. The choice of a parenting model is informed by a rigorous analysis of the potential benefits or detriment that may accrue from the use of the said model. However, it is a reasonable concession that all aspects considered, the authoritative model of parenting is the most beneficial and appropriate.
The importance of the relationship between parents and their children has been proven to have a drastic impact on the overall well-being of both the parents and children alike. It is for such reasons that there is a need for parents to adopt the profoundly developmentally beneficial authoritative parenting model. In an experimental study entitled ‘Mindful Parenting Predicts Mothers’ and Infants’ Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal Activity During a Dyadic Stressor’ the authors aimed at interrogating the potential for benefit that lies in this mindful parenting model.

Wait! Psychology Coursework paper is just an example!

The authors conducted experiments whereby mothers were interviewed on their parenting techniques and the resultant effectiveness. A vast majority of the interviewees indicated an improvement in the child’s cognitive abilities when allowed to adhere to rules for which they see reason. Amongst the findings of the report was an outline of the various parenting strategies used by the interviewees. In ensuring the success of this parenting model, some of the appropriate procedures include; reduced use of punitive corrective measures, affording the children opportunity to explain their actions and the intent rationalization of any punishment (Laurent et al. 2017).
In conclusion, parenthood and its complexities imply that each parent is faced with a unique set of challenges and as such require a unique approach. However, proper application of the authoritative parenting models can yield excellent results for both child and parent.
