Case Study of a Woman who gave Birth to a Stillborn.
A woman who was experiencing abdominal pain at 39 C temperature gave birth to a dead baby. A study showed that the blood culture of the young one had gram-positive rods. Also, the investigation noted that the woman had a culture of eating unheated hot dogs while she was pregnant. Therefore, the following is an analysis of what made the woman give birth to a stillborn baby.
The woman used to take unheated hot dogs during her pregnancy. Eating uncooked or unheated food would lead to listeriosis. The uncooked meal comprises a bacteria known as Listeria monocytogenes (Farber & Peterkin 476). These bacteria do not depend on the existence of oxygen for its survival. This infection has high risks on the lives of individual hosts since it would destroy the cells of the host. The body cells are likely to die eight hours after infection.
The bacteria belong to the family of the gram-positive bacterium. The bacteria can survive in temperatures as low as 0 °C. This nature ensures the ability of the bacteria to be able to avoid control of the human foods. The recurrent existence of this pathogen in the host would cause meningitis in the new-borns (Farber & Peterkin 476). Therefore, the pregnant women should not take uncooked or unheated food. Since the cold and raw food permits the growth of the Listeria monocytogenes, which would cause meningitis in the new-borns. The pathogen infects the sensitive parts of the host’s body such as the spinal cord and the brain.

Hence a pregnant woman who takes uncooked or unheated food is likely to give birth to dead or a premature baby.
The Listeria monocytogenes commonly found in vegetables, dairy products, meat and processed foodstuffs such as hot dogs. The manure or the soil contains the Listeria bacteria that affect the plants. The animals carry the bacteria that contaminates the dairy products or the animal meat (Farber & Peterkin 479). Also, the period after processing allows the bacteria to be able to infest the processed foods. Once the bacteria get into the body system, it can multiply to more extensive in body tissues and become blood borne. In pregnant women, it would affect the brain and later migrate to the fetus of the mother.
Listeriosis is common among newborns, the elderly and pregnant mothers. Also familiar in adults with a disability. However, sometimes the bacteria would infect some adults and children, but they would not fall seriously sick. Mothers who take foods contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes are likely to give birth to babies with listeriosis.
Therefore, the organism that leads to the giving birth of a stillborn baby by the woman, in this case, is the Listeria monocytogenes. This result is because the woman used to take unheated hot dogs. The unheated hot dogs were cold, hence would permit the survival of the Listeria bacteria. Since the hot dogs are likely to be contaminated by the bacteria the period it takes after processing before it gets consumed. Therefore, the bacteria are likely to have infected the brain and the spinal cord of the baby, which would have caused meningitis to the unborn baby leading to his or her death. Therefore, it is evident that the organism involved in giving birth to a dead infant by the woman is Listeria monocytogenes.
