Reading report: Gracia, Finland

Some time ago, before formally entering the pedagogy career, I felt excited about the education I had Finland, because seeing a documentary called: What do we invade now? I seemed very interesting the entire educational system within that country and how the students express themselves from the same system that they were equally fundamental; And even the most shocking thing for me was to see the expressions of teachers, and students towards their teachers; But when reading this book this interest that I had previously in education in Finland, it fell further. As a summary, the book is important aspects of what makes Finland have the best educational system and why his success, while making a comparison of these parts that describes the Finnish education system with the educational system of Spain; And the most important point that I thought about the book was to describe the concept of education system as well as its characteristics and each of the parts that compose it; and realize the terrible mistake that I as a pedagogy student was committing because despite the fact that the author at first comments in the book that it is not a book for "scholars" or to "be studied" as such; I personally left me thinking about my development within the pedagogy career and what I would like to change or develop within the country; As the author mentions, most of the time it is understood that the education system only corresponds to the school system, that is, it only corresponds to the government institutions that carry the educational part of the country, schools, teachers, teachers and students; and only in some cases the part known as "parents" is taken into account; Which is effectively a mistake because an important sector is leaving that is education within an area that would define it as within formal education, that is, the entire education of a country is being put only into hands of formal education When in reality education is a very broad term, since people are always within it, from the moment we are born when mom and/or dad educate us to know how to speak, know how to eat with a spoon, know how to crawl and walk; And then we grow up to a school where we get knowledge of science, mathematics, Spanish, history, etc.

Wait! Reading Report: Gracia, Finland paper is just an example!

And not only but the way to relate, have friends; So far we become adults and we have to learn to live with our partner, to administer our finances, coexistence within our own employment or how to perform in that work; For education is an internal and external process that occurs throughout the life of the human being, and the author puts evidence that Finland understood it very well, because this system goes from the individual internally to the collective internally and externally, alreadythat in the Finnish education a recognition is made for your value as an individual and what you do to improve your society.

But how can this be interpreted within the educational system so that it succeeds as in the case of Finland?

Very simple, since education cannot be understood only as formal education, the education system is divided into 3 subsystems that make it possible, thus having the family subsystem, the school subsystem and the sociocultural subsystem, since each of them arepart of the education of an individual’s life. This means that an internal process of the individual is going to work so that these three subsystems are in congruence or more than anything in connection with what you want to achieve within the education of a country; And this is where this component enters that the values are;Which leads us to another question that is:

What values do the country society need?

Because from answering this question, it will be achieved that these subsystems are in connection to have a vision of education in a global way and thus be ableestablish an educational system within a nation. This means that these fundamental values or that the nation needs to be within each of the subsystems that make up an educational system, since otherwise it will be impossible to give an order and structure from which “the education of the education of thecountry ”will be established.

In the case of Finland, the values from which the education system revolves and in each of the subsystems that compose it are equity and quality. So in the family subsystem there must be equity and quality; In the school subsystem there must be equity and quality;and in the sociocultural subsystem there must also be equity and quality.

Now what makes it of this internal educational process in union with the subsystems?

The family is the first source of education of an individual, and the most important, because it is from where everything is born, and it is for this reason that it is part of the important education system as a subsystem, because within the book the author emphasizesStudies that demonstrate that poverty is directly related to school failure, as an example we could say the saying that says “you are poor you are poor” in my personal opinion I do not consider it that way but it is somewhat complicated that theSons or daughters of poor families have a good school performance since if the boy or the girl does not feed well how can carry out their learning process in the best way?, This on the one hand and on the other side, what happens when the family is not poor but is not stable either? Because it will fall directly to emotional health and may even be physics of the sons or daughters that you may not have the desired use. It is for this reason that in Finland there is a welfare state where programs for families are included, where they can choose the one that suits them to navigate the equity within the value, and thus provide equal conditions to the different countries of thenation; And as a quality there is talk of support towards the education of fathers and mothers, that is, which is the best way to raise their sons and daughters detecting problems or problems that may arise and that prevent the development of the child orYoung in learning. And in this way we have covered the values

Now we go with the sociocultural part, this part also includes the family but already in an external way, that is, being conceived as a society that is built

Likewise but that has a responsibility with the society of the country, that is to say that there will be a balance between these 2 subsystems as in the case of Finland because within this part what this nation does is establish a protection program that guarantees the well -being ofAll the people especially of the children, but here the work part of the fathers and mothers enters because what does Finland is precisely to find that balance between the work of being parents and the part where they/they canperform within a job as a service of your society; In addition, access to information by libraries and other centers is very accessible and somehow this makes Finland one of the first countries in the area of reading comprehension. Thus having the quality and equity values covered in this subsystem again.

And finally the school subsystem is one within which the educational process of each individual culminates, and the individual internal development process we were talking about before so that it finally becomes collective. In Finland in this subsystem there is still the values of equity and quality, since the needs of children with capacities are met at the same time that children are served without such abilities and the psychosocial area is followed up and on the side ofQuality Teachers are the ones who evaluate teachers, this seemed important to me since it is a fact that changes the aspect of this subsystems a lot because being the director who makes these evaluations a more accurate “evaluation” of the teaching process can be madethat it is being carried out, because someone who comes from outside does not do and who does not know the structure and coexistence of day to day within the school. In addition a part that I liked a lot is that the arts are integrated as an important part within the teaching -learning process.

This is how all education in Finland is divided into three gears that are such subsystems, and the oil that moves the gears are the values that this nation needs.

And that is why from the beginning I mentioned that the book made me account for the error I had about educational systems, because I conceived it only as the school subsystem and knew that the other parts are important but did not know how to integrate them, butNow I have a better vision, as well as the author, when comparing the educational system of his country with that of Finlandia.
