The Islamic religion is practiced on five tenets that are known as Five Pillars. All Muslims must adhere to them. The pillars are Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj (The five pillars of Islam, 2009). The other pillars of Islam are described as follows. Firstly, Shahadah relates to the recitation of the Islamic faith and holds that there is no God but God and his prophet Mohamed (The five pillars of Islam, 2009). Secondly, Salat requires Muslims to make five prayers in a day. The faithful are required to bow and prostrate while praying. Thirdly, Sawm directs all the Muslims to fast during the holy month of Ramadan. Finally, Hajj requires a Muslim to make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lives.
Zakat, which is the third pillar, is one of these pillars that would function in the life of the Muslim party individual. In adherence to it, a Muslim is mandated to pay alms or charity for the benefit of the poor in the society. For a party Muslim, he/she can give donations to the less fortunate in the community in a complaint with the pillar.
Egypt’s Coptic Christians are an example of a Christian Community living among majority Muslims. An analysis of the principles and practices of this Christian community bears similarity to the five pillars of Islam. First, the Coptic Christians are required to fast as a sign of contrition and repentance (Zavada, 2014). Such a practice is similar to Sawm. Secondly, Coptic Christianity bears a resemblance to the Islamic pillar of Shahadah in the sense that it is monotheistic.

Thirdly, Coptic Christians worship God by reciting some prayers and reading from the bible, which is strongly related to Salat. Fourthly, alms giving is practiced by Coptic Christians and is considered the work of the Holy Spirit and attainment of brotherly love. Such giving of alms is related to the third pillar of Islam, Zakat. Finally, Coptic Christians of Egypt make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The number of Coptic Christians making Pilgrimage to Jerusalem is said to have doubled between 2014 and 2016 (Chiaramonte, 2017). This practice is similar to the fifth pillar of Islam, which is Hajj.
In conclusion, Islam is practiced based on five pillars, which are Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm and Hajj. A party Muslim can comply with the Zakat by giving alms and making donations to the poor. Additionally, the practices of Coptic Christians in Egypt bears resemblance to Islam in various practiced as identified above.
