The writer has best described the meaning of morality. Morality is a wide topic that goes beyond the personal opinion of what is right and wrong or good and bad. As much as the writer rightfully argues that the issue has both independent and collective interpretations, the collective interpretation of the issue in some circumstances outweighs individual interpretations. Culture is broad and cultural standards are set by a large number or group of people. What culture dictates as right and wrong is superior to the personal opinion since a person can easily be sidelined and thought of as disrespectful. Culture is developed overtime same as morality. This means that cultural practices, beliefs, norms and moral principles have been debated by the society over time and what are presently being followed are the results of collective thinking and widely agreed upon principles and morals (Benn, 2005). The writer’s assertion that the judgment of what constituted right and wrong or good and bad is true. These judgments need to be confined to broad cultural and moral expectations of the wider society. A wrong judgment can result in a conflict or even being isolated and thought of as immoral. The question killing is wrong even when it is done to protect oneself. Taking another person’s life for whatever reason is widely frowned upon by many cultures. Even if such a person is taken to a court of law, he or she will be accused of manslaughter. The writer’s argument that if a person consents to act in a particular manner, their acts cannot be construed as immoral or wrong just because it does not hurt others is not entirely correct.

Acts such as homosexuality, though done out of consent between two or more parties, hurts the moral conscience of other people who are opposed to these acts. Religion and history are part of the society, and their culture hence provides the moral compass.
