ISIS is a large and powerful terrorist group that has gained control of large parts of the Middle East. This militant group rose to prominence when they drove out the Iraq government forces out of strategic cities and also captured Mosul Infamously known for its brutal violence and inhuman killings of civilians. This self-declared caliphate has claimed to be the chief architects of hundreds of deadly terrorist attacks around the globe that has left the world on its toes. Also, the group has claimed involvement in the destruction of monuments, ancient religious centers and other strategic buildings across the globe (History, 2018).
ISIS was formed in 2004 by Musab al-Zarqawi who was initially a member of Osama’s Al-Qaeda (History, 2018). The group initially swore loyalty to the Osama led militia group. From 2004, United States forces and other western allies had invaded Iraq, and Al-Qaeda aim was to get rid of the American forces and after that establish a Sunni Islamic regime. ISIS, after its inauguration, joined the fray to counter US forces invasion. The plan was to destabilize neighboring countries after the US military had left and established Islamic Authority.
In 2006, al-Zarqawi was killed courtesy of an air strike by the United States air force and was replaced by Abu Ayyub al-Masri, who was the leader of the Egyptian wing (Burns, 2006). The group continued to make attacks on large masses and targeting religious and historical centers.

With the outbreak of protests in Syria in 2011, violence escalated quickly to the extent of militarization (BBC, 2016). ISIS fighters went to Syria and quickly popularized the group establishing bases throughout the nation. The terrorist group expanded rapidly leading Syria into becoming an Islamic State.References
