Restorative Justice
Restorative justice is a formal and informal way of responding to crime after it has occurred. Restorative justice aims at making the wrongdoers accountable for their crime or wrongdoing and to help them repair the harm they caused. It also aims at promoting community safety by building positive relationships between people even after another person’s actions have harmed somebody. Restorative justice also addresses the need for competency development by relying on the strengths of the young people (Morrison, 2013). It discusses the challenges faced by the youths that forces them to engage in antisocial behaviors. Restorative justice is fundamental in schools as it effectively manages the antisocial behaviors in schools.
During this restorative session, the people who should be present include the two students who drove through the school lawn and destroying the newly planted trees and other playground equipment, the school administration, the parents of the two students, representatives of the several fundraisers who contributed the money for the trees and the playground equipment destroyed by the students and the members of the community restorative justice group. All these people should be present because they have an issue with the actions of the two students and the effects on the students affected in one way or another.
The two students should be present because they were the wrongdoers and they should account for their actions.

They should be present to explain to the tribunal why they decided to ride through the school lawn. The student’s parents should be present so that they can be able to hear for themselves, the conduct of their children while in school (Morrison, 2013). They should also avail themselves for ensuring the panel does not harass their children. They should also agree on the fairness of the punishment intended for the children. The tribunal should comprise the school administration because it was also affected by the wrongdoings of the students. They should also explain to the tribunal if there are schools rules that restrict driving within some areas in the school and if that action went against the school rules. The representatives of the fundraisers should be present in the tribunal because they were directly affected by the conflict. The students should say how sorry they are for disrespecting the fundraisers and the representatives of the fundraisers should show their reactions towards the wrongdoing and maybe decide on the punishment for the students. Members of the community group should be present as they will lead the session and ensure that the process is successful.
