Santa Monica Beach is recognized as the origin of “beach culture.” The beach is roughly 3 miles long and considered as a powerful bond between the human-made and natural worlds and offers access to everyone who visits the place. The beach has beautiful sites, has a touch of culture and history and provides opportunities for social and leisure interaction.
Population
Santa Monica Beach, previously referred as Santa Monica State Beach is a major beach in the Southern California. The beach is divided into three segments since it is 3.5 miles long including the North of the Pier, Santa Monica Pier, and South of Pier. Santa Monica has an estimated population of 93,220, by July 1, 2015, with 100 percent living in the urban area and zero percent in the rural region. The region’s males account for 48.9 percent and women 51.1 percent with a median age of 40.8 years. The population statistics explain the fact that the area appears less-densely populated as proved by little-to-no congestion in the streets and parks in comparison to other cities like New York. Also, the 2.2 population difference between men and women elucidate the unnoticeable variation between the numbers of the two genders while on the streets.
Population Race
Santa Monica is characterized by a majority of White people with the area’s foreign-born persons accounting for only 22.8 percent between 2010 and 2014. In fact, statistics show that 77.6 percent of the region’s populace was all White in 2010. The case is not different now in which a walk through the streets presents a minuscule probability of meeting with a non-White person.

In the parks, one can only see less than five Hispanics or African Americans which makes the area seem more of an all-White place than inclusive and diverse like other larger cities such as New York. 2010 statistics proves these observations in which they indicate African American constituted of 3.9 percent of the city’s entire population. These statistics are relevantly small thus explaining increased incidences of meeting with Whites than other races in public places at any given time. In fact, throughout the entire period spent on the street, I crossed paths with only one foreign-born individual, the rest were Whites.

The area’s population in civilian employment accounted for 70.7 percent between 2010 and 2014, with total women in employment constituting 66.8 percent. There were 381 total law enforcement personnel n 2014 out of which 202 were police officers. In other words, 2.17 police officers are responsible for every 1,000 residents in the region. These findings clarify a field observation made in which I only managed to see one police patrol vehicle during the entire observation period. These observations may suggest little incidences of crime in the area, likely due to low population rate. Moreover, although the town experiences some level of crime incidences, the rate is not as high as the case in other cities with relatively high populations. Additionally, the place’s joblessness rate as at September 2015 was at 5.2 percent which is a considerably low level. During field work there was no any encounter with idle residents, everyone seemed to be busy save for those found at the beach area.
The region’s most popular businesses include professional technical and scientific services, which hold 23 percent of all industries, retail at 8 percent and information at 12 percent. Other industries include Educational services at 7 percent, Entertainment, art and leisure at 8 percent, social assistance and healthcare at percent and manufacturing at 6 percent. As observed in the field study, Santa Monica beach is a place with a variety of recreational opportunities with the main one being the beach. It is not unusual to find the beach flocked even during working days as noted during the outdoor observation. The availability of diverse work fields provides the place’s residents with alternatives to choose from, and the small population explains the low unemployment rate in the region. The region’s level of unmarried partners is 7.0 percent which clarifies why nearly all pictures taken during outdoor work consist of considerably few individuals within the adolescent age range. It was also noticeable that the number of obese or overweight people was moderate in that, every place did not lack one or more individuals with the overweight condition. To support this observation, Santa Monica is said to have an overweight rate of 32.6 percent.
Santa Monica Beach Area Landscape
The landscape of an area is its outstanding characteristics and the way these elements assimilate with human-made or natural traits. It is also defined as the type of landscape painting that represents perspectives of particular regions of a land. Landscape, therefore, involves transient features such as weather and lighting conditions. It also entails the physical features of geophysical landforms like hills, mountains, lakes, sea, rivers, ponds, human characteristics like a different use of land, and the living area covering elements like native vegetation.
Santa Monica Beach has a coastal landscape in which the Pacific Ocean meets the land. The area has a flat topography in which there are no hills or contours in the region. This discovery may explain why the beach s one of the iconic zones in California and attracts people from different areas to visit for recreational purposes. The flat topographic element of the region is identifiable by the ability of an individual to see many miles over the horizon. Moreover, the beach has various human-made landscapes marked by the buildings and the type of architectures utilized. For instance, the area’s architecture involves the use of a historical form of building instead of the modernized ones involving extremely tall buildings. In fact, nearly all building in the regions including residential and commercial are not more than 10-storey tall and even the tall ones are sparingly distributed across the city. Additionally, a majority of the town’s building a brightly colored which complements the sandy beach overall environment. Also, the choice of buildings’ color may be for ensuring the sun rays and heat reflect back instead of being absorbed. Lastly, the city includes human-made and natural plantations like trees and grass distributed across various regions of the town such as parks, where people enjoy their leisure moments.
