Critical Thinking
This article is centered on the aspect of critical thinking as one of the resources that people need to have to resist orders from the authorities and the characteristics of a good critical thinker. It opens up by explaining two different study types of research; The Milgram study on memory and learning, 1960-1963, and the US Navy study on the reactions of human to different circumstances of power. These two study types of research suggest that if not most of the Americans, many of them would uncritically follow the commands issued by those in authority. When people are faced with the counterargument, some lack adequate explanations of why they made their decision. Ordinary people can go to the extremity of doing things in a situation with institutional support rather than what they would do in their own.
I like the article because it puts out the importance of critical thinking in solving our issues in life for our intellectuality and personal development. Critical thinking helps us to make the right judgment or decision by weighing how to do things, distinguishing between the good and the wrong things. Again, this paper explains three stages of critical thinking; Dualism, Relativism, and Commitment as stated by William Perry, Jr., an Education researcher. These stages advance our way of handling issues in life from simple to complex. I also like the way it puts out clearly that even though there might be evidence that supports our ideas, we should not ignore those which contradict our point of view or interest as this would not be critical thinking.

We should gather, evaluate and synthesize the available evidence. Finally, this article has explained the method of doubt and purpose of the belief that we need to apply in critical thinking to begin from the point of skepticism and suspend all the beliefs and biases we have respectively, and analyze all the views.
Critical thinking can be applied in situations such as when students need to choose their study career courses at higher institutions. Many of the students have come to regrets about why the accepted taking the course of their parents’ choice. Students need to have their say and judgment in choosing the path according to their ability band interest. Also, when doing a research project, research needs critical thinking technique in all the sections of the investigation. To analyze the findings of the study and come up with the explicit, unbiased discussion and conclusion, we need to put aside all the beliefs and doubts that we might have had and talk of the specific findings of the research to maintain the authenticity and validity of the study.
However, in critical thinking, we are faced with challenges. How narrow should be our skepticism when it comes to analyzing issues? To what extent should we allow the people’s ideas and opinions in discussion matters where we need to draw a conclusion that suits all diversities? Finally, how we can avoid conflicting interests in a group with persons whose decisions are based on anticipated benefits as a result of the final decision may be a significant challenge.
Critical thinking is essential in our daily life. It enables us to handle ourselves as well as others. However, we must employ the right techniques to be good critical thinkers. To be able to accommodate different ideas from different people and make final decisions without bias is a rare quality among many and need to have them, to lead successful people free of doubts and regrets.
