DownloadSexual orientation refers to the patterns of the romantic, emotional and sexual attraction of a person towards a certain gender. This is highly an enduring pattern of sexual attraction to persons of the same sex, opposite or both sexes. Under this consideration, gender identity refers to the inside sense of one’s femininity as well as masculinity and everything else in between. On the other hand, gender roles refer to the physical outlook of gender or rather what the society usually considers as gender stereotypes of what is feminine and masculine. This includes things like wearing skirts, having long and short hair. However, it is important to note that since these are own society views, the individual sense might be completely different. In this regard, the term cross gender is used to describe people who behold behavior that is stereotyped to belong to the opposite gender. Moreover, transsexual is used to refer to a group of people who transits to the opposite gender.
Though gender variations are factors that require great attention in the society, research has found out that most of the clinicians lack the necessary skills and experience to work with the gender variants pre-pubertal children, adults, as well as adolescents. Clinicians, in this case, are required to realize the possible contributor factors that fuel in the transsexuals’ development. Understanding the nature versus nurture contributors can help in answering all the questions involving gender variations in human beings.
Wait! Sexual Orientation paper is just an example!
Research has found that for many children, the behavior variation in a certain gender starts at the age of two years. During this age, most of the children are heard as they openly make statements that communicate their feelings towards the opposite sex. At this stage, a child starts to portray their sexual attractions through games and plays. During the play sessions, they highly pretend that they belong to the opposite sex. In most cases, the gender- variation problem starts at the school level where children begin to experience some degree of isolation. This occurs when both boys and girls begin to isolate those who portray deviance behaviors that are believed to belong to the opposite sex.
Additionally, sexual orientation has an adverse effect on all children who lack proper support in their living environment due to lack of positive identity. This is because, the children’s under consideration may develop low self-esteem and this can lead to harms such as negative behavior, suicidal as well as risk taking habits.
Clinically and in the social work settings, we need to develop strategies on how to deal with people who possess the transgender pattern of behavior. For instance, having men employees or work mates who desire to dress to look like their female counterparts needs first to be appreciated to avoid loss of self-esteem and after that advised on how to change the habit. How employers and fellow employees handle these groups of people is important because this determines the reaction behavior of the person concerned.
In terms of treatment in the work settings, clinicians are required to focus on the issues of suicidal, sexuality, self-esteem as well as family relationships. In some cases, a therapist needs to pay more attention in encouraging the establishment of unmovable gender identity. However, in cases where gender identity is possibly controllable, the opposite gender identity can be discouraged so as to encourage those that fits the original gender of the person.
