Should the Government Provide Free Daycare
Over the decades, the United States has seen a gradual increase in the number of children under the age of five. According to statistics, there was a shoot between the years 1980 and 1985 (“Pre-Primary School Enrollment 1970-2016 | Statistic”) after which a slow but steady rise has been observed. Because of such statistics, it is easy for some quarters to entertain debates of the government providing free daycare services with total disregard to the burden it will place on the taxpayer and the numerous areas the government can invest in.
To begin with, having children and bringing them up is the responsibility of their parents. In this century it is unheard of for parents not to plan for pregnancies and even once pregnant a mother has a choice of giving birth or not. As a result, having children and dumping them into a government-owned daycare facility during their formative years is definitely not a wise decision. In the year 2016, the number of pre-primary school children stood at slightly over 8.7 million (“Pre-Primary School Enrollment 1970-2016 | Statistic”). If the government was to absorb this number in the name of caring for them, there is no telling the kind of burden the action would lay on the American taxpayer. In addition, there are a plethora of other projects the government can embark, which are beneficial to all citizens without overburdening them with tax.
The success of such a project would mean more productive hours to the working American mother.

Wait! Should the Government Provide Free Daycare paper is just an example!

Nonetheless, the business of handling toddlers is a delicate matter and it cannot be left to government structures, which are known to be bureaucratic and usually inefficient. Thus, such a venture can only end up being an exercise in futility and one that exposes the taxpayer to unnecessary sorrow.
