Abstract.
Social identity involves individuals’ sense of who they ought to be based on the groups that they are in. The most important group that a person can belong to is a family or a kinship group. A parent does not formulate the family of an individual either do the brothers or sisters. What formulates an individual’s real family is the sense of belonging with the people. Being free and able to do anything without the fear of receiving negative judgments is the family that everyone yearns for — a place where the will receive unlimited support to do anything that they want without any restrictions. A sense of belonging comes when a person sees the other groups where he/she does not belong to as inferior groups with no significant thing that is more than the groups that they are in. It is also evident that once people belong to a group that they are socially stable with, the start looking for mistakes to disqualify and discriminate the validity of the other groups so that they can improve their self-image. Social identity involves the life that the person is used to, the friends, the way of socialization, the culture and the associations and interactions in the presence of the person.
An aspect of social identity that has changed.
Not long ago, four years down the line, I used to live with my parents. But they were unstable people and the constant commotion and little care that they gave to us as their children resulted in us being given out to foster families and kinship care families.

So far, the ride and transition into the customs of the families is not an easy one since a change from the type of socialization that I was so much used to, towards something new is a challenging one. On particular thing that is worth noting is that I managed to land at kinship care under the wing of my able uncle.
Well, it’s worth noting that the society of today does not restrict anything starting from marriage to the kind of friends one has, in that one can have an alien friend and still no one cares. My uncle was gay, and he was married to a man. Honestly, I was not used to this kind of life, having two fathers, it was like I will not get used to that kind of life at all. I was there wondering what my friends at school will think of me, how I will associate with people and how my family’s name will receive gossips in school and even in the locality. And it was true, I lost a couple of friends not many, but most of the ones I thought will stand by me rain come sunshine. One thing I learn is respect for family, no matter the way somebody has chosen to live their lives. My two kinship fathers helped me to adapt to the environment, to get new friends and I learned to associate freely with people over time. Kinship is a significant faction, will all the things related to it, one can always count on family to come first (Schneider, 1953).
