Social skills between immigrants

In Spain, many immigrant minors are seen, normally from Maghreb countries and from Africa and without being accompanied by any adult, the situation of poverty and the lack of future and expectations, of situations of family destructuring and institutional lack of protection, of catastrophesNatural, war, violence and situations of generalized violation of human rights that these minors live forces them to leave their countries of origin looking for a better future.

The Save the Children International Alliance and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees defines this group as follows: “Unaccompanied minors are children, under 18, who are outside their country of origin, separated fromhis father and his mother or his previous main legal/usual tutor ”. On the other hand, the resolution of the Council of the European Union, of June 26, 1997, relating to unaccompanied national minors of third countries called “unaccompanied” minors "to:

“Children under 18 years of third countries that reach the territory of Member States without accompanying an adult responsible for them, either legally or according to the uses and customs, as long as they are not effectively under careof an adult responsible for them ". 

In the geographical situation of Spain, the arrival of the first cases of migration of unaccompanied minorsconsolidated and accelerated considerably, highlighting the last years especially. The desire to cross the border of Ceuta and Melilla is no longer associated only with adult migrants, but is also a matter of children.

Currently, our country has become one of Mena’s largest receptors in Europe. However, despite the increase in this type of migration, it has not been possible to offer an effective response by the legal or protection system.

In 2017 they have been located 2.345 unaccompanied foreign minors

Arriving to the Spanish coasts on pateras or other similar vessels. This data represents an extraordinary increase of 398% in relation to 2016 (588 Mena), and 566% compared to the number of minors who arrived in this same route in 2015 (414 Mena). 

In this way it is confirmed that the arrival of an unaccompanied foreigner in our country grows every year and that between 2016-2017 there was a more than important increase. Even so, these data only correspond to those Mena who have arrived in Patera, since the memory of the Prosecutor’s Office does not have quantitative data on which they have entered the country on the other hand.

The most common forms through which minors are introduced in Spain are: through pateras, hidden in the low motor vehicles or hidden in other media.

Normally, children who use the last two ways to cross the border of Ceuta and Melilla try to hide again (polizones) in vessels that reach them to the Peninsula.

Therefore, as we see foreign children normally do not come in optimal conditions, once they reach their minors protection center, the most essential is to teach the language and once they are adapted to the center, the appropriate thing would be to work with themin social skills for proper adaptation and adequate personal development with their classmates and with the center where reside. 

Social interactions are fundamental in the day -to -day life of people and in all interactive situations, people have to use social skills to maintain adequate communication.

We can define social skills as a set of habits in our behaviors but also in our thoughts and emotions that allow us to communicate with others effectively, maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships, feel good, get what we want and get other peopleThey do not prevent us from achieving our goals.
