Ethnic stereotypes
It is for the fact that there is an undue ethnic stereotype in the world of sports to date even in America. This has rendered athletes and sportsmen from the minority groups helpless when on track or court. They feel intimidated, and this weakens they performance. The only way to avoid such scenes is striving to win. Contrary to the American melting pot theory, a person from minority cultures entering the US has had to face it rough in their bid to interact with the mainstream American culture.
The case highlighted can be well fitted in the well-earned reputation theory. The fact that the Chinese and the Asians did not often participate in the sports was not a reason to raise the stereotypes. Lucky enough they were able to command following through their excellence in sports.
The Asian-Americans culture is barely represented in the mainstream society, and for this reason, ethnic stereotypes are widespread. It is evident that after Lin’s success story, the following from the social media grew rapidly not only from his region but across the entire state. This meant that he was able to prove wrong a greater population in the US who had earlier shun the Asian-Americans in sports.
It is agreeable that some of the names branded on the sports team are derogatory and offensive. While every team in sports seeks to find a logo that defines them and connects them to their fans, some names are bound to elicit negative reactions from a section of the population.

Wait! Sociology paper is just an example!

The redskin name was insulting to the Native Americans of Indian origin who felt that they were being mocked and raised mixed reactions from their fans across the board (Gordon, 14).
