Dear Mary,
I am writing to enlighten you and give recommendations on the hardware and software requirements that you should take into consideration when purchasing a new computer. This is because knowing the minimum requirements you need is imperative so that you purchase a computer that can meet your needs as a student. Before diving into the requirements, there many other factors to consider when planning to purchase a computer, for example, the cost, the operating system, the portability, the brand and the warranty among others. For someone intending to make use of a computer as a student, portability is an essential factor. In this case, a laptop would be preferable to a desktop since it is easier to move around with the computer conveniently. Furthermore, there are many occasion that one may be required to work with the computer in class. In this case, a laptop will be suitable since it can store charge and less cumbersome to carry around.
For school projects, presentations and assignments, software such as Microsoft Office is an example of a program that would be efficient. Collaboration software is also necessary to help in working together on projects with other students (FinanceOnline, 2017). Specified software are needed for purposes such listening to music, web surfing, computer games and storing data on the cloud, software that is, media players, web browsers, graphics drivers and cloud storage software respectively.

Graphics drivers provide game optimization capabilities (Chacos, 2018) in addition to controlling the operation of graphical components of the computer. Cloud storage is a preferred method of storing digital data (Rivera, 2017) such as music and movies. It helps in saving storage space on the computer and can also be used for backup.
