Teamwork and Its Benefits
“Activities in an organization require a lot of interaction and communication between the people involved” (Tohidi, 2010). This helps to build a team capable of going all the way to achieve a common and ultimate goal.
STAGES OF TEAM DEVELOPMENT
Forming, storming, norming and performing were the four forms of group development (Tuckman, 1965) until a fifth was added called adjourning (Tuckman & Jensen, 1977). These Stages explain how a team grows over time.
Forming:
During this stage, the team is put together; individuals are formal to each other. They get to know one another and rely on the information granted to them by the leader. Here the leader sets team goals.
Storming:
The team members try to show their strengths. They are concerned with the impression they make, rather than trying to complete the task at hand. Tension could arise at this stage, and it is imperative for the leader to exercise control.
Norming:
The team members get to know each other’s strength and weaknesses, and how they can complement it. There is a feeling of teamwork at this stage; relationships are built, where team members are comfortable with each other.
Performing:
The team is mature at this stage. Its members understand their roles and responsibilities. They are more productive, looking for ways of self-improvement to move the team forward and achieve extraordinary goals.
Adjourning:
This is a stage of bringing the team to a close, after completion of a project.

Wait! Teamwork and its benefits paper is just an example!

How strong team skills benefit a person? How can one use teamwork skills in one’s job?
Strong team skills will be of great benefit to me in that teamwork touches on work ethic, competency, building trust, development, and confidence. Having these skills would make me a better individual. I would be able to step into any working capacity and be confident in my ability to adapt to any task. It would help me to understand the need to learn while teaming up with others to further enhance my development.
At my job, using these skills are necessary to create a healthy working environment for myself and my colleagues, accomplishing tasks on my own might not be possible, but by involving my teammates, I would accomplish a lot more.
In healthcare “Given the interdisciplinary nature of the work and the necessity of cooperation among the workers who perform it, teamwork is critical for ensuring patient safety” (Baker et al., 2006). Teamwork is essential in the healthcare. For example, during an appendectomy-surgical procedure nurses, anesthesiologist and a surgeon cooperate as a team to remove the appendix. Thus, healthcare providers “adjust to each other’s actions, and have a shared understanding of how a procedure should happen” (Baker et al., 2006).
Participation in a virtual meeting:
The virtual meeting allows people from all over the world regardless of their location link up online using video, audio or text. “The nature of effective virtual meetings is that they tend to be short, up to 90 minutes, and spread work over a period”(Young, 2009). It feels great to participate in a virtual meeting. I do not have to leave my location. With the click of a button, I am in connection with colleagues from all over the world discussing company strategies.
A virtual meeting benefits:
Participating in a virtual meeting is different from face-to-face in many ways. Those include but are not limited to:
Cost and time:
Virtual meetings allow saving time and money, while still sharing important company ideas. There is no need to travel long distances to attend a meeting. There is no excuse for absence, and there is no cause for lateness due to traveling. Time zone could be a problem, but it is better than traveling for miles.
Communication:
Communication is productive. There is no distraction for the speaker, which allows him to relay his message efficiently, speakers during this meeting speak in turns as the listener’s turn-off their microphone to listen, there is no room to cut-in, and it is less rowdy. More information is being passed across as there is no excuse for forgetting to relay a particular message, due to the proximity of the internet and at the comfort of home.
Increased productivity:
Due to accessibility meetings could be held on numerous occasions, leaving no margin for error with regards to the progress of the company. A meeting can be set-up within a short timeframe if an issue requires fast salvation. There is also a case of confidence among co-workers, some people are more confident speaking during virtual meetings than a face-to-face meeting, ideas from such people could be important in company matters.
