Technology Effect on Society
In the past decades, technology has significantly advanced with new developments in social networking including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Snapchat influencing the lives of the people daily. Currently, people can connect digitally with each other which has made the world a global village. While there have been arguments that technology has been instrumental in making tasks easier, simpler and fast, it has also been detrimental to people lives as their health, happiness, and creativity is affected by it. The positives that have been brought by technology has in turn been eroded by the negative consequences it has caused to the people.
On a positive note, technology has been useful in enhancing connectivity among global citizens. Currently, it is possible for individuals across the world to connect and exchange information that is necessary for their social and economic development (Lad 19653). Social media platforms such as Whatsapp and Facebook have specifically been useful in connecting digital communities. This is necessary for enhancing integration among the people of diverse cultures.
Secondly, the advancements in technology have made business marketing, B2B, and B2C activities easier. Companies post their products on the websites and social media pages to reach out to the customers that are spread across the world (Lad 19654). This is a critical milestone since it has reduced the cost of marketing business products in the mainstream media.

Advertisement messages can also be accessed real-time, and there are no constraints of time and distance which has simplified business advertising. Businesses can also connect with other entities as well as customers through collaborative tools such as chats which enables them to respond to the concerns and needs of the market. Consequently, this has improved the ability of the business to offer their products and services in the market. Customers can also make product and service decisions promptly to make their purchasing decisions.
Furthermore, technology has simplified processes in other areas. It has been employed in classroom setups to aid in learning. Students can collaborate through Google documents to undertake group work while classroom materials can be disseminated through the school websites to facilitate learning (Lad 19653). Individuals can also use workgroups to collaborate on projects especially when they are working from their remote locations.
Despite the positive effects of technology, negative impacts have also been witnessed. In particular, cyberbullying is a common trend that is occurring due to the use of social networks. Cyberbullying happens when another person intentionally or repeatedly mistreats, harasses, threatens to hurt and makes fun of another online which in turn affects them. According to a report published by Cyberbullying Research Center, this is one of the most critical challenges facing teenagers. Adolescent girls are 36.7 percent more likely to experience cyberbullying compared to 12.7 percent boys (Hinduja and Patchin n.p.). Cyberbullying affects the emotional state of the victims which interferes with their happiness and health. In some cases, teens have committed suicide to overcome the cyberbullying they experience online.
Besides, the onset of technology through social media has crippled interpersonal relationships. People are spending more time on social media which has made them cyber-addicts (Lad 19657). Consequently, this has affected social relations as individuals do not have time to spend time with their families and friends. Social media networks such as YouTube has enabled individuals to access content that keeps them engaged, thus spending less time on physical connections with others. Therefore, interpersonal relationships have been substituted with online connectivity which has hindered the ability of individuals to collaborate on issues that affect them.
Finally, the growth in technology has affected creativity. Individuals are no longer seeking creative solutions to the problems they are facing (Lad 19655). Instead, the internet has provided a platform where they can download programs and content that can help solve the problems. Although this is critical in enhancing the ability of individuals to solve problems quickly, it has hurt their creativity since they do not have to result in seeking alternative human intuitions in problem-solving.
To conclude, although technology has been useful, it has negative consequences to the users. Technology growth through the use of Facebook, Snapchat, and WhatsApp have enhanced connectivity between individuals. Also, there are improved business activities through marketing and connection with other businesses as well as customers. However, technology has been a source of cybercrime, poor interpersonal relations, and has harmed the creativity of individuals.
