Teen Pregnancy
Problem
Teen pregnancy can be defined as the state in which underage girls get pregnant. Notably, underage girls are below the age of twenty which apparently is the legal age which indicates the boundary between teenagers and adults. The rate of pregnant teenagers has been on the rise within the past two decades. This has triggered concerns by the government and private organizations since this issue has significant effects on many aspects of life (Weiss 203). For instance, teen pregnancy significantly affects the country’s economy as it increases the rate of school dropouts, it has led to high mortality rates as well as healthcare costs due to abortions, and it has crippled social development. Per se, this problem needs to be mitigated to help teenage girls who are vulnerable to pregnancy, their families and the nation at large.
Purpose
This paper seeks to critically examine various issues which affiliate to teenage pregnancy and come up with solutions that can help reduce its rates. Facts about the causes of teenage pregnancy will be used to postulate the solutions to the problem. Counterarguments to the solutions will be analyzed, and the research will conclude by pinpointing the stand.
Audience
The audience of this work is specifically fellow students and professor. Therefore, all research conducted will be aimed at providing findings and therefore a write-up that will benefit this primary audience.

The language used and the results of the research will be presented in a way that is easy to understand by this group of people.
Solutions
Abstinence education is the first line of mitigation against this issue (DoSomething.org 34). By educating the teens on the consequences of early pregnancy, they will become more conscious and therefore learn to protect themselves against it.
Parents should come out and discuss sex issues with their children. They should understand that today teenagers are vulnerable and exposed and therefore need guidance in this age period.
Since it may be challenging for some adults to conduct the guidance session to their teenage girls due to cultural aspects, mentoring can be used to help (Barth 183). Certainly, a team of girls who have passed the teenage can be used to mentor teenage girls.
It is inarguable that it may be impossible to prevent the teenage girls from engaging in sexual activities completely. This is because of their exposure to factors which foster sexual activities (Weiss 203). As such, teenage girls may be taught about the use of contraceptives and responsible sexual activities.
The entire community should be involved in the mitigation program of this problem (DoSomething.org 35). For instance, all members of the community should be included to help formulate and implement policies which can help reduce the rate of teenage pregnancy in the society.
Counter Arguments
The rate of exposure to factors which foster sexual activities in the current digital world are extremely high. As such, it is impossible to curb the issue since the internet and the easy access of computerized gadgets such as phones contribute in swaying teenagers.
Lack of seriousness about the teenage pregnancy has also been found to foster the problem (DoSomething.org 36). Even though cases of teen pregnancy have been on the rise, very few steps have been taken counter the issue. This has rendered the problem almost impossible to mitigate.
Additionally, the rate of substance use among the teenagers has also inclined due to influence from celebrities. In the current world, teenagers and youths, in general, try to emulate every aspect of the life of popular people such as musicians. This ends up influencing them negatively.
Stand
Taking into account the solutions of the problem and the counterargument, it is clear that mitigation measures outweigh the counterarguments. This indicates that the problems can be solved thereby reducing its impacts to the teenage girls who are the vulnerable group, their families and the nation at large. Evidently, by solving the problem, the mortality rate will be reduced, healthcare cost will be declined, and social development will be increased.
