The habit of reading as progress for the human being

Through time, humanity has managed to expand its range of knowledge in areas such as science, philosophy and politics, thus causing the improvement of human well -being. However, all this would not have been possible without the integration of a fundamental element. The habit of reading has sustained the human being on his way through the process of study and learning in the most significant aspects of human life and society. However, in recent years this practice of the development of the understanding of written texts has entered a severe decline in the daily activities of the person. Reading has continually proven to be able to break the chains of ignorance and be the basis of human formation, so the conservation of this habit is indispensable for every human being. Reading constitutes the essential element for human development by providing a broad baggage of various knowledge, promoting critical thinking and perfecting vocabulary and spelling.

The practice of reading provides the human being with a valuable source of different knowledge that allows the person to take actions for the development of their society, since it manages to capture the different ideas of the writer in the thought of the reader and his integration is necessary for thedevelopment of an informed society. Although, some comment that the reading is tedious and boring, and it does not treat issues of relevance to the reader, according to an article by the Carlos Slim Foundation entitled “Why there are less and less readers”, the reading is full of ideas and information and informationnecessary for the progress of the individual in the different aspects of his life.

Wait! The Habit Of Reading As Progress For The Human Being paper is just an example!

Reading shares a vital experience of knowledge and exchange between the writer and the reader, constituting a basis for social and intellectual coexistence and progress (Lasso 2004: 25). On the other hand, in the field of citizen participation in politics, reading takes a decisive role in the suffrage of a country. According to Parthenon’s article, entitled "Reflections on the importance of an informed vote" written by David Yañez Alba, proposals must be reviewed that have a solid and realistic base and that take into account the country’s juncture. This is achieved only by a high understanding of texts by citizens. In addition, this acquisition of knowledge through reading has a unique value that keeps the mind active and stimulates various cognitive processes as says Gerardo Castillos Ceballos, in its article entitled “Why are you less and less?". For all this, we can affirm, reading in our daily life is the key to knowledge (cited by Barboza, 2007: 18).

The habit of reading constitutes an essential means for the development of critical thinking because this practice implies a process of analysis and interpretation of various data. Now, according to the article of "El Comercio" entitled "Critical Thought" written by Gonzalo Portacarrero, it is assured that some people believe that critical thinking is not necessary for society and does not plan to change any aspect of it, however, we know that critical thinking is the key to the progress of the country, and that it is acquired through reading. This practice is part of a constructive process that establishes relations with the author, the text and the reader of the text, and is not only limited to knowing the meaning of the words within a text, but also depends on the previous knowledge of the reader, the contextualization and inference of the author’s intentions and the active construction of new knowledge (cited by Oliveras and Sanmartí, 2009: 235). Critical thinking granted by reading allows more prudent initiatives and reflecting on different fields, thus obtaining different points of view. Critical people are less likely to have trial errors, fall into deception and make erroneous decisions (Hernández, Londoño, Silva and Becerra, 2018: 72). As Gloria Elizabeth Arias Vivanco states in his article "Critical reading as a strategy for the development of logical thinking", critical thinking is a powerful weapon when used as a tool for logical reasoning.

Reading perfects the vocabulary of people because in carrying out this practice, new words are subtracted, learning its meaning and writing. Although some people think that spelling and vocabulary are expanded with study and conversations, it is reading that really allows these aspects of communication to improve. According to Nayeli Casillas, Communicologist, Analyzer and Criticism, the habit of the reading constant guarantees to have a broad lexicon, improve the writing of texts and better express thoughts. Extensive reading improves the ability to read, write, communicate and use grammatical patterns correctly (Hernández, 2007: 33). As Marcela Manrique states, reading forces the person to apply methods with concrete actions to make the most of a book, how to use the dictionary to find the meaning of new words.

In conclusion, the habit of reading constitutes the fundamental piece for human progress, managing to stimulate the cognitive and intellectual development of the person with the extensive knowledge that this practice offers, allowing logical reasoning with the use of critical thinking and improving spellingand reader vocabulary. The various knowledge that reading provides the individual, allows himIt makes it able to analyze and create their own critical opinion, which is indispensable to create an informed society when reading, you begin to interpret and comment on data that put into practice the critical thinking of each person, necessary to avoid being deceived or making reckless decisions. The exhaustive reading in the daily routine of the person, perfects their lexicon and spelling because this habit forces the reader to take measures to learn new meanings and words. For all what was said above, the integration of the habit of reading is crucial to ensure the formation of an intellectually prepared person, capable of making the best decisions in their society to achieve everyone’s well -being and the eradication of ignorance.
