Abstract
Leadership is the ability to bring change, motivate, and influence others towards success and effectiveness of a group or an organization. Thus, the primary goal of a leader is to work with his or her followers to achieve the goals of a team. An effective connection between a good leader and the followers is determined by the qualities displayed by both parties. A good follower should be influential to his or her leader by performing duties assigned and encouraging responsibility among other followers. Leaders should work towards creating a good rapport with his followers by learning and understanding the followers. The major components of a good leader are determined by the leadership skills displayed and the successful implementation of the changes necessary in the organization.

Over the years, working at PepsiCo has enabled me to perform both the duties of a follower and a leader. During my first years working with the organization, I ensured that I played the roles of a good follower, guaranteeing that I did my best to influence better changes and development within the company. I was careful working as the assistant sales team leader as I propagated positive inputs to control the followers towards achieving the organization’s goals and missions (Northouse, 2017). I got promoted after five years as a sales team leader where I influenced the employees through positive change.

While working at PepsiCo, I realized how important it was for a leader to influence his or her followers and vice versa. As a sales team leader, I had the opportunity to understand the unique behaviors, potential, and the existing differences among the followers. These followers influenced my leadership skills and elements; this is because most of them were self-driven and often encouraged a sense of responsibility amongst themselves which improved the performance of the team. Active collaboration is another critical component which can be used to describe the influencing relationship between the sales team leader at PepsiCo and the followers (Northouse, 2017).
Even though not all managers are leaders, most of the managers at PepsiCo displayed many traits of good leaders. Therefore, this enabled them to easily introduce change to the company and influence the followers towards adapting to the new changes. Mostly, it became easy for the leaders to incorporate changes to the organization because most of the led by example. Additionally, leaders involved followers in the decision-making process. Thus, in case there were any changes to be made, the followers were aware of them prior the implementation. Finally, most members if not all were aware of the organizational goals and the importance of enhancing team performance. Therefore, leaders used this motivation factor to encourage the followers to adapt to the given changes.
The primary objectives of PepsiCo were to introduce a new series of products during the year, guarantee healthy hydration trends for the innovation of the product, and maintain all the operational objectives of the company into focus. PepsiCo primary mission is to ensure that their customers receive affordable, delicious, complimentary and convenient treats given that it is one of the largest beverage and food company in the globe. My leadership skills influence followers to put the company’s interests first by ensuring that all their actions are beneficial and ethical for the organization’s success. It includes articulating PepsiCo’s corporate governance where the followers and leaders follow the practices, processes, and rules by which the company is controlled and directed.
Leaders at PepsiCo enjoy working with the employees. Personally, I appreciate helping the employees succeed in their projects as it is vital to the organization’s success. Additionally, all are treated as valuable assets by managers in this company. Managers believe that employees are the essential strength needed for the organization’s success. This case, they are given the opportunity to exercise their full potential that contributes to the organization’s success. Managers treat the employees with respect and honesty, guaranteeing that they provide a safe, healthy, and secure workplace environment (Northouse, 2017). Additionally, PepsiCo has respect for human rights and employee dignity and strives to follow all the applicable regulations and laws.
