Transgender Discrimination
The term transgender is used to describe persons who exhibit a different sex from that which they were born with. They feel different on the inside. These people realize this in the span of their lives. They decide to live in accordance to the gender that they have always had knowledge as theirs and transition to live as that particular gender. The paper aims at looking at the definition of transgender discrimination, its current state, the social and personal impact that is associated with discrimination, laws and statues that ensure they are protected from discrimination and some projects and initiatives that protect the individuals supporting their self-esteem and social integration.
The transgender persons experience discrimination as a result of their expression of gender and identity and also their sexual orientation. Gender identity is that inner sense feeling of being female or male while expression of gender represents the behavior or mannerisms and characteristics such as; the way people talk, appearance and manner of dressing.
Current state
The transgender in America are facing a special moment which has great impact historically. There are the increased visibility and a change in public opinions which are making the effort to provide the transgender people with greater protections legally than has been witnessed before (Emilia, 70). However, while this is being experienced a great number of the transgender people especially the transgender women and those transgender people of color are still facing many barriers to their wellbeing, their health and their safety.

Currently, one is recognized as transgender if they obtain a birth certificate that is newly assigned by the registry that states the type of gender an individual identifies with and in another way, if they have a birth certificate that has been amended and is issued by the state.
Personal and social impact with discrimination
A number of the transgender people have committed suicide or have tried to take their own lives. Every proclaimed transgender has faced discrimination at one point in their lives. There occurs a challenge in the assessment of the personal and social impacts that barriers have on the American transgender lives. The national transgender discrimination survey has the responsibility of getting national data on the transgender lives (Crosby, 15). The surveys are able to give a clear, detailed picture regarding the lives of the transgender people.
Transgender Americans are faced with the barrier to work and live in ordinary communities in each state. It’s difficult for them to be able to earn a living, contribute to the revenue by paying taxes and be of service to the community. However, with the anti-discrimination initiatives and programs, they are becoming accepted in the American society and culture.
Statue and laws ensure protection and antidiscrimination
The law prohibits transgender discrimination which emanates from mistreating the transgender or harassing them. There is indirect transgender discrimination which is prohibited by the law. It occurs if an existing rule goes against the transgender or disadvantages them in a much greater way than the non-transgender. State courts in New Jersey and Massachusetts hold that transsexual persons are protected under the state disability laws (Trotter, 57). The antidiscrimination law applies to the transgender; those who are intersexual that is those who are born with both sexual parts; and if other people perceive one as a transgender individual.
The law applies in various areas of the life of the public. The areas include: in workplaces where the job application is done fairly the transgender are considered equally; obtaining licences or work registration forms to perform a job or leave the particular job; in application to join educational institutions and study; the law applies in the housing sector in both rent and accommodation in houses, flats, motel and hotel rooms; when an individual is in need of goods or a service from government offices, hospitals, shops, hotels, banks, the police, and public transport.
Projects and initiatives protect the individuals supporting their self-esteem and social integration
The Trans employment program that exists of the lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender program has the important task of developing inclusive places of employment for the transgender and those gender nonconforming persons (Kristie, 190). The program was launched in the year 2007 as the first program funded by the local government to help the transgender person obtain work. This program helps the transgender facing numerous discrimination rates unemployment, homelessness and under employment. They have a belief in the equality of the transgender and their support begins with social and economic justice.
There also exist the transgender initiative that supports the diversity of the genders. It is built on the idea of developing a safe place in the community for all people across the genders to gather in order to offer a supportive and warm social environment that is welcoming. They work within the community with the transgender, the gender variants, and other organizations supporting the positivity of transgender inclusion.
To conclude these people are diverse both in race and ethnicity. They should be protected as they are human like everyone else. There exists a national center for transgender equality which leads the nation on social justice advocacy that enables in winning lifesaving change for the transgender people. This provides a guideline provides for advocates to the issues faced by transgender Americans as well as recommendations to help in the change. There exist gender support groups which are open to all people. They get to discuss personal issues helping them get over previous discrimination acts.
