Abstract
In this essay, the 5W1H technique is applied in solving a problem of managing finances and cutting on expenses. The method involves asking questions; who, what, where, when, why and how. Having a factual answer to each of these questions might lead to solving whatever problem is being faced. The technique is also referred to as the Kipling method and is used not only in problem-solving but also in planning. In this particular, I have used the technique to uncover how exactly run short of money with two weeks after being paid. By just questioning myself my eyes get to be opened on how I have been wasting money and possible measure that might save me some change. 5W1H does not require any special skills; anyone can use the procedure without needing any extra hand. Being fresh from college managing cash might seem not to be important, but it is.
Using 5W1H in Life
I recently completed my bachelor’s degree and was lucky enough to secure a job almost immediately. Although the salary I receive is not that big, it is supposed to sustain all my expense for a month considering I am yet to have a lot of financial obligation. Unfortunately, in the middle of every month, I am always broke and have to ask for a loan from my colleagues. It has turned into a comfortable routine until I discovered that I have been pushing away my fellow workers. No one likes what I have been doing since we are all paid almost the same salary.
Before calling it quits and look for another higher paying job (which is almost impossible) I intend to apply the 5W1H method in solving my problem.

The first question is who is involved (Knop & Mielczarek, 2018? After getting my pay, I tend to hang out more with my campus friends. Reducing how often I meet up with these friends might be the first step to solving my problem. What happens? Each time we are together we either go parting or shopping. Rarely do we stay indoors and do something constructive. Perhaps if I suggest a change in what we do, things might improve for me. Where do our meetings often take place? The joints where we meet have a way of manipulating me into overspending money. When does my money issue occur? After two weeks into a new month, this implies that during this spans my expenditure must be high. Why does it happen? The main reason is peer pressure and trying to fit in.
How does the massive spending happen? It starts with any of my friend buying something fancy, and I follow suit just because I have the cash. One of my colleagues has the similar problem; perhaps if I told him of the question method, he might come up with means of cutting on unnecessary expenses.
