Warren-Sharpe Community Center is an organization that offers various programs that include Kids in the kitchen, Ride it out Fitness, and the Community Garden for Children. The Ride it out Fitness Program is mainly designed for children who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or the children who are at a risk of contracting the disease (Huebner 15). The program, The Kids in the Kitchen, is a six weeks nutrition and cooking class, and it is basically for parents and their children. It focuses on the consumption of vegetables, fresh fruits, and whole grains and families are taught the various methods on how to prepare healthy and delicious meals. After the course, children host a ceremonial dinner at the center for their family.
The Warren Sharpe Foundation is extremely passionate about tackling the food insecurities within its proximity. Additionally, the Children’s Community Garden is a venture that is premeditated to teach the youth on the matters to do with choosing healthy food, agriculture, and to increase the activities that involve physique together with giving support to the food pantry. Also, the center has been supporting several households with clothing, food, and school supplies.
The Public Problem being addressed by the Organization: The organization addresses poverty affecting children within its locality and is more focused on the provision of healthy food to such children. It also ensures that the children and their parents know how to prepare healthy foods by providing them with tutorial classes on such matters.

It is the children who are adversely affected as they are continuously supplied with the non-nutritious foods that are unhealthy to their lives.
The causes of the problem and how it impacts on the society: Most of the families on Joliet’s south side are individuals who are poor since the salaries of the working class are low, and several other individuals are unemployed. The impact of the problem is that children in most cases go without meals while those who find something to eat always eat non-nutritious meals just for them to fill their stomachs. Such kind of eating habit is unhealthy to the body, and it results in certain diseases that affect the human species because of lack of a balanced diet. Lack of proper food denies a society of its labor and therefore, people are always not in a position to work so as to eradicate poverty within them (Huebner 39). The children’s performance in schools also declines, and they fail to achieve the grades that they should be capable of achieving.
How does the organization address the problem? What actions are taken to resolve it? The agency is committed to being a resource for the community, and thus it has taken in several children and initiated them into various programs including agriculture in which they cultivate vegetables and fruits. Also, they are also taught on the healthy techniques of preparing a healthy meal. The agency has engaged in several commitments that drive towards serving the youths, teens, and children. The drive gets geared towards creating solutions to the problems of the neighborhood as well as creating a safe venue and a place for nurturing youths and children. In resolving the issues of the community of Joliet, the agency has initiated several programs that include enrichment of early education, programs that are offered after school, food pantry, counseling, parenting and support to kids, service to the community, programs for youth development, and job experience for the children.
The role of State and Local Government: The state gives the agency the moral support it requires and encourages the agency to keep on with its good service to the poor kids in the society. The first lady of the United States, Mitchell Obama has taken the initiative to invite the foundation to the kitchen garden of White House and has inspired them to keep up the spirit of learning as well as growing. The agency has also had the support of Bill Foster, who is a Congressman of the United States. The presence of the two powerful individuals proves that the state supports the programs that the agency has so far engaged in, and such support gives the agency morale.
The children and the youth who are getting the support of the agency are also inspired by the presence of the two individuals and the visit at the White House (Huebner 54). Besides, the organization also gets the support of the local government concerning donations of foods and other basic needs as well as the engagement of the local government officials in support of some of the programs that the agency has initiated. The firm has continuously gotten support from the Will County’s United Way ever since its inception, and there have never been any interference from the county government with the activities of the agency.
Conclusion
To conclude, it is imperative to note that Warren-Sharpe Community Center has played a vital role in assisting the poor residents of Joliet. The programs that it has initiated have also played a significant role in eradicating poverty as well as the provision of nutritious foods to kids.
