What Business Means To Me
Name:
Institution:
Businesses are a critical part of our society today, and it helps to integrate a huge number of sectors in society today. It is through a business that some of the essential needs get to be satisfied; money earned through this business then helps to sustain people’s livelihoods. Additionally, businesses also contribute to building and developing a country’s infrastructure as well as the formation of key life-long friendships. Personally, businesses have had a huge impact on my life since it has created a job opportunity for me. To be honest, I would not be able to sustain the life I live right now were it not for businesses. Most importantly, according to me, business is all about people and exchanging of value through provision and receipt of values. It commonly occurs that not everyone is skilled in all areas of life, people get to learn skills, through business institutions like schools, then make these services available to people through businesses. Although some negatives are related to business, I believe that the existence of businesses is for the benefit of most, if not all, people.
I recently got to work with a Chinese-owned business and the experience was out of this world. Basing on previous experiences, I can confidently say that this is one of the best companies today. It is a company that specializes in making cordless headphones. This CEO of this company is one of the most humble and understanding people I have met so far.

Wait! what business means to me? paper is just an example!

He truly values his employees and goes out of his way to ensure that they are comfortable in the workplace by providing all the luxuries one would not get in other companies like laptops. Also, the employees get to own all the products the company is selling without extra cost. What impressed me is how the employees are integrated into the company’s decision-making process which, in other companies, is done only by the top management. Employee satisfaction has had an effect on the sales of the company since they are able to give their very best. This has seen an increase in sales through the months and even greater market penetration. For a starting company, I saw this as the biggest milestone. What is more is the level of attention paid to customer feedback and the prompt response. A good strategy that has been used by the company is using top celebrities to market and brand their products. This has worked for them since sales have been doubling over the months, so are the positive reviews.
Despite that, I have also got to work with companies that have been in my bad books since my stay there. The distribution company is my least favorite because of the unethical issues that arise every now and then but are not addressed. To begin with, the criterion for employee selection was on the basis of race and relationship with top management, and not the qualification. Most employees working there are either of a particular race or have some family or friends within the organization. These are also the criteria for supplier selection. What is more, some suppliers are not paid in time and are taken in rounds when they claim their money. The management even goes further to issue threats when the suppliers pester them for too long. Apart from that, I noticed that junior employees were often mistreated and misused by the senior staff. Being an intern, I was subjected to doing some chores around the office which would have been done by support staff like making coffee and cleaning desks. The management did not concern itself with this, and no overtime was paid. In my view, the company needs to restructure all the processes and rules that have been used previously. These include the structure for selection and payment of suppliers, employment criteria, overtimes, etc. After this, the next step is to terminate racist bosses, and if not, strict measures should be enforced against those promoting racism and nepotism.
In this class, I hope to learn about the role business plays in our everyday lives and its importance to people. Having a grasp on the necessity of business will act as a trigger for me to promote and start my businesses so that these roles are realized (Adkins & Radtke, 2004). Further, I hope to learn about the ethical issues in business and laws governing business since I have seen their importance in my past interactions with other businesses. Finally, I hope to learn more about finance and operation and customer relations that are key aspects of having a successful business.
