What Is Success
When I’m 100 years old, and I look back over my life, I would prefer to be waking up daily smiling, because I would have obtained knowledge and understanding of the human mind and the various mental processes particularly in connection to behavior. I will then use the acquired knowledge to help and walk with people suffering from different psychological and behavioral issues solve their problem and enjoy life like any other average person. It would be satisfactory to me because I would be able to understand people around me and know what motivates or influences their actions.
My goal may seem too broad, but I believe it is attainable by being focused. Below are some of the specific goals that would help me achieve my goal in the next few years.
First, I will concentrate on accomplishing my degree course in psychology, which will give me an understanding of the mind and knowledge of how human beings behave. It would help me improve my communication skills, understand myself, and know others better. The knowledge shall also develop my critical thinking ability concerning various life issues and also learn how to appreciate the different stages of human development, which would be useful in understanding different people in my life such as children, the elderly, teenagers, and others (Cherry, 2018).
I shall then further my studies by specializing in a doctorate in counseling psychology. The course will help me gain sound knowledge on various theories, and carry out research on the improvement and growth of an individual, group, therapeutic processes, and relationships not forgetting the effect of psychotherapy and counseling in the community.

I will use the knowledge to understand why the various age groups behave as they do, what motivates them and the challenges they face, for example, how to handle the children or the elderly in different circumstances. Also, the knowledge shall help me since it will assist me to improve various analytical, critical thinking, conceptual, self-evaluation and interpersonal skills (“Aims,” 2017). It shall also help me obtain confidence and knowledge when joining the field on how to handle various issues in the professional world. For example, the knowledge will assist me to identify, and understand why people grief differently especially men and women, or why others take longer to overcome their grief compared to others, then how to counsel the involved parties to understand their differences and appreciate them.
I will associate myself and help established scholars on their various research projects. As I research with them on their topics, I would be able to understand and better my knowledge on issues concerning the human mind and reasons why people behave as they do under various circumstances.
I shall also look for an institution that deals with helping people handle various mental and behavioral issues and volunteer to work there. The institution will help me learn from observation and asking questions on how to handle multiple clients. This shall give me experience with real issues that people with mental and behavioral problems face.
I will also enroll as a member of two or three groups or research organizations either locally or online dealing with psychology information or research such as the American Psychological Association. The various groups or research organizations will help me be able to relate and network with other people in my field (“Benefits of APA Membership, n.d.). Also I would be able to access available current resources such as databases or journals on various psychological issues and new researched methods of solving the problems.
