“A Sound of Thunder” and “Nethergrave.” Critical Response
Ray Bradbury’s “A Sound of Thunder” and Gloria Skurzynski’s “Nethergrave.” are both science fiction stories that show the technological advancements that have taken place over the years and those that are likely to come soon. In both stories, technology has been used to change the lives of the main characters significantly. Various themes emerged from both stories. The story “A Sound of Thunder,” portrays that a small bad action may lead to massive destruction. On the other hand, “Nethergrave” portrays the theme that when reality becomes hard, one is likely to make deprived verdicts that may seem to make it better. These two themes evoked in the two stories go hand in hand. In this case, the books portray that when life becomes tough, one is likely to make poor judgments, and those deprived decisions may affect him or her.
The story “A Sound of Thunder” talks about dinosaurs and a time machine that was used to take people back in time. The time machine was developed to take humans to the jungle stories, which are believed to have occurred sixty years ago. The “Nethergrave” story talks about Jeremy, the main character, who decided to enter into a virtual world after staying lonely and embarrassed in the real world.
