Advances in education and the peace process in Colombia

In the first extent, it is established that Colombia is a democratic nation, defender of human dignity and in turn member of the United Nations. Before the peace negotiations, the Chair of La Paz arose, through Law 1732 of 2014 and its Regulatory Decree 1038 of 2015, whose objective is based on “promoting the process of appropriation of knowledge and competencies related to the territory, culture, the culture, theEconomic and social context and historical memory, with the purpose of rebuilding the social fabric, promoting general prosperity and guaranteeing effectiveness the principles, rights and duties enshrined in the Constitution ”(Decree 1038). It is worth mentioning that the main content of the Chair of Peace is aimed at learning about: Peace Culture, Education for Peace and Sustainable Development.

It is necessary to mention that there are certain programs and entities such as UNESCO, which whose main objective is the construction of a culture of peace and sustainable development. In the same way, the training and research for sustainable development are among their priorities, including human rights education, peaceful relationship skills, adequate governance, conflict prevention and peace consolidation. According to what was mentioned above, corresponding to the programs, these provide the necessary tools mainly to teachers to carry out learning in relation to the implementation of La Paz Chair for the Student Community.

From a historical context, we can include that on October 15, 1999, the Peace Education Program project in the hemisphere was approved, having as its basis the recognition that ”education is one of the pillars to promote peace, emphasizes preventing conflicts and reducing violence ”(Permanent Council of the Organization of American States). These comprehensive programs are carried out for teaching in competencies for students (children, youth and adults), teachers and parents through dynamic and interactive methodologies.

Critically analyzing: Can you talk about a culture of peace since the figures related to the absence of peace in our country are related to multiple elements other than illegal armed groups? Problems that arise in our daily lives such as corruption, poverty, extreme inequality and urban violence, among others, are also part of what attention should be attracted at the national level if peace or culture is really intended to achieveof peace. Peace requires respect for the value and dignity of our rights, tolerance between individuals, and harmony within each person. In the same way requires justice for the whole society in general. It is clearly enough to say that it is of full importance to educate for peace, however, it must be taken into account that peace education must start from an explicit recognition of the importance of training people aware of their role and responsibility with the world,which implies the development of participatory citizenship in the construction of social coexistence.
