What is one of the “notions of Africa” as described by Gilbert and Reynolds that grabs your attention and why?
The notion of Africa that the continent is wild and dangerous can capture one’s attention in this era. This mental apprehension is among the usual images of media presents concerning Africa. The continent seems is either a trackless and vast desert, or a rainforest that is impenetrable. The risky and untamed, wild people and wild animals inhabit the environment. Gilbert and Reynolds describe that when an individual develops an imagination about Africa as a place of lions, charging rhinos, mysterious diseases and vicious animals, the person could be under influence of this notion. The particular opinion regarding Africa gives it an insecure picture (Brotz et al. 1).
What do you learn from Keim about the word “tribe” and why it is problematic for understanding Africa and Africans?
The word ‘tribe’ originated from Latin, and it was used in describing the Roman state unit. Territories defined the Roman tribes, whereby they had distinct cultures. The ethnic groups were responsible for administrative roles like census taking, tax collection and conscription. Common Africans still stick to people identification. The people recognize themselves to exist in ethnic groups purposely to exercise power over the others (Brotz et al. 3).
In Africa, asking about tribe can create tension due to its consideration in a political context.

Wait! African Civilization revised paper is just an example!

However, Africans do not symbolize tribes as indigenous or Africanism. Sometimes understanding Africans is hard for instance in America the African-Americans can form organization meetings, but when whites walk in groups they are labeled racist. The terms ‘Nation, people or ethnic group’ can be used to substitute tribe. Now one can wonder when all Africans will get civilized. (Brotz et al. 3).

The film Black Panther is acted in an African setting. The characters use costumes that portray a traditional African society. The blackness celebration and perfect culture and political commentary are displayed. The movie reveals the exotic Africa notion as documented by Reynold and Gilbert. The author document that, the concept stresses diversity between other human societies and Africans. People in this continent are viewed as bizarre clothed, covered in unreal designs, naked and outlandish outfits (Brotz et al. 2).
