American Civil War
The Introduction
American Civil War occurred between the year 1861 and 1865. The war was primarily as a result of different beliefs held by the southern and the northern more so on issues related to slavery. The southern states were in favor of the use of slaves for economic progress a view that was highly distasteful among the northern elite. The southern states were very well aware of the potential threats of a Lincoln presidency to their rights to own slaves. When Lincoln became the president, he confirmed their fears by denying the southern states the right to own slaves. Eleven southern states seceded in an attempt to retain their economic system that was pegged on slavery. The president, however, insisted that secession was illegal a position that set off the civil war.
Article’s Summary
The piece The American Civil War, Part II by Thomas Friedman puts across several pertinent issues. The report warns against increased divisions in the country. According to the report, such divisions have in the past caused civil wars both in Lebanon and in America. The report also emphasizes the words of Jeff Flake that indeed tribalism is ruining the people and tearing the country apart. The author of the article recalls what it was like during the assassination of Martin Luther King; the period that was marred by street battles and citizens marching for their civil rights (Friedman par.4). The author, however, feels that today is worse and people are much more divided than it was back then.

Wait! American Civil War paper is just an example!

Personal Opinion
The title of the article The American Civil War, Part II itself brings back the memories of the losses that come with war. This article presents real facts and leaves any reasonable citizens with questions on what we gain when we are divided. The country today, just like during the civil war has departed from partisanship to embrace tribalism. Further, instances of political extremism are increasingly becoming evident. The nation is deeply divided with each side blaming the other for the divisions. As a country, we ought to come together and put an end these divisions failure to which we risk reversing the significant gains we have made over time.
