An identity case

Introduction

The chosen story is a case of the writer’s identity to. Conan Doyle, in the book The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. This is a story of the classic detective Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were discussing the mysteries that Sherlock Holmes had been investigating and about the vicissitudes of life, when Miss Mary Sutherland arrives at her home of Baker Street.

The woman tells the detective who has come to him because her fiance. Hosmer Angel has disappeared the morning of his marriage and his father, (then he will explain that he is actually his stepfather) SR. Windibank does not want her to make the complaint and on top of demonstrating a total disinterest in this situation.

Developing

After the various questions of Holmes, the girl answers that he met him at a party he went with his mother taking advantage that his stepfather was on a trip since he did not want her to attend. They continued seeing and committed, but when the stepfather returned on the trip they stopped seeing themselves because when he learned this one of the young woman’s commitment, he forbade him to continue seeing it so they had to wait until the stepfather went out again to be able to see again.

The woman provided Holmes with the few data she knew about her boyfriend, who worked in offices of Leadenhall Street as cashier, who also lived there, that like her she had a weakness of the view and that is why he used glasses with crystals with crystalsColor so that the light did not affect it, that it was very shy and since he did not like people to look at him, he preferred the walks in the afternoon entrance at night and not during the day.

Wait! An Identity Case paper is just an example!

That he had a low and very sweet tone when talking about a swelling in the glands for angina that he suffered as a young man and that in addition to always going very well dressed, he was very gentleman.

But the most striking was that the letters that were sent between them were machine, even the signature of it. She did not bothered her because in addition to collecting an annual income for an inheritance that her uncle bequeathed, she earned a life as a typist.

And finally that the MR. Hosmer wanted to marry before the girl’s father returned from her trip, therefore, they organized everything very fast until in the morning of the wedding she disappeared. All this information, plus the thorough observation of Holmes of the clothing, the hands with ink and the bad boots folded gave him all the answers about the mysterious disappearance of the fiance.

Sherlock told the young woman that she was not going to see her fiance again, to forget her and reduweather. The girl said she had promised her boyfriend fidelity and who would wait forever, and after giving her the cards she left.

Although Sherlock appeared to have the resolution of the disappearance, he explained nothing. Holmes sends two written machine notes, one by one company on Leadenhall Street and another to the woman’s stepfather to go to his home the next day and tell DR. Watson to return the next day that will have the resolution. When the next day, Watson returns to Holmes’ address, he asks him if he has resolved the mystery to which Sherlock answers that there was none and that he only felt like there was no punishment for the Granuja.

When the young woman’s father arrives at her study the next day, Sherlock confronts him and tells her how she reached the resolution that he, Windibank was the same person as Hosmer Angel and that one of the indications was that the letter in whichHe answered Holmes that he would go that day he was written with the same machine of which the letters in the name of Hosmer. Both had the same failures in the same letters.

As Mary had a good income, while living with her parents, they could have this money, but if she allowed her to know someone who fell in love and then married, that sum would no longer have it available, therefore pretended to beAnother person to court her, make him fall in love with him and when he disappeared, she would wait for him for years while they could use the money in question. After all he had married an older woman for several years with the same purpose.

The structure of the story is linear and has the classic deductive-inductive analysis that stands out in this type of gender. Everything is resolved as a great riddle in crossword format, all the tracks are fitting, where the data that appears (the bad boots folded, Mr. Hosmer Angel that is only shown when Windibank is not there, the letters always written by machine, the meetings at hours of the night, the annual income that the protagonist receives and manages her stepfather) are helping the detective to solve the mystery.

As usually occurs in this type of literary genre, there is a detective Sabelotodo, who with his most naive but equally courageous assistant, try to discover the rarest events. The case solution method is deductive/ rational and this is registered mark of the first police novels, of which Doyle is one of the precursors. The resolution is always completed at the end of the analysis and narratively as telling a story.

c) And d) Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Came from a family of illustrators and cartoonists. Son of an alcoholic father, he motivated him to move to an institution of the State in Edinburgh, but by 1867 the family meets again. In 1876, he entered the Medicine career at the University of Edinburgh until 1881.

In 1882 he founded a clinic in the city of Portsmouth, but since he did not have many patients, in his free time he wrote stories, an act he had already performed in his youth during his stay in the boarding school and now resumed. The success obtained by his stories was such that at 5 he decided to devote himself exclusively to writing and closed the clinic.

In 1887, he published his first great writing that leads him to fame entitled Study in Scarlet, where the author invents detective Sherlock Holmes, character based on a teacher who had at the Faculty. He had a long literary career until he died in 1930 for a heart attack, in the city of N Crowborough (England) Arthur Conan Doyle writes in the last years of Victorian era, where conflicts with Ireland and colonies worsen at the same time at the same timethat the labor and union movement becomes more strength. An era where positivism marked the course.

The emergence of the classic police novel is born thanks to the American Edgar Allan researcher or detective, always cunning and intelligent and compromises him not to predict anything. It always concludes reasonably using logic for this, with an almost mathematical method of conspiracy, analyzing the clues and pieces that must be adjusted, and that was generally in interior environments and in individuals of high society. Poe who invented the protagonist for Auguste Dupin, fiction detective, who was worth prototype for Sherlock Holmes that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created.

This is two considerations to resolve a crime, it is based on deductions from

He is a classic police novel author, not only because he creates the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, who uses deductive thinking, track analysis to reach a resolution, but also because the story is through his assistant, and the protagonists areAlways conservative, aristocratic. One last but not least characteristic of this genre is to find the answer to how was it?, instead of why.

A man named Spade.

The chosen story is a man named Spade of the writer Dashiell Hammett. This is a story where a private detective named Sam Spade receives a SR phone call. Max Bliss asking him for help because he had received threats against his life. With only one address as data, the detective goes to the domicile of the SR. Bliss but when he arrived he is received by two police officers who knew from before for other cases that he had to inform him that he was late because Mr. Bliss was dead, who had been killed by strangulation.

Since he enters the deceased’s home until the end of the story, everything happens in his department and has the collaboration of a police officer named Dundy.

A daughter who has died and calls the police, and who also has a secret love relationship with a married man, a housekeeper who apparently did not have much appreciation for the deceased, and a brother who had left the prison of the prisonSan Quintín for a month for a crime he had committed with his brother but that only he had been convicted, and that he had married that same afternoon with his brother Max’s secretary.

The deceased had in his chest a drawing of a 5 -pointed star with a letter t in the center and his clothes lay by his side. The detective attracts attention to the tie that is new and therefore it cannot be the one that had been put at the time of the attack. Then, the police will find a tie with blood stains and a tie -click that the daughter will recognize that she was from her father. With these clues and only the call he had received prior to homicide and another also called that same day asking a man Kruger, Spade solves the case.

The victim’s brother blackmailed him for having gone only to prison. He planted several false clues to disorient the police which further attracted Spade’s attention for how strange it was. The resolution of the case for the reader is given through the narration made by Spade to his secretary as if he were telling him a story. It is not part of the development of the story itself.

The structure of the story is to circulate as are black police gender novels. Hammett is considered the founder this genre. According to the definition of Giardinelli we could pigeonhole this story as one of the three constant forms of narration: the action novel with a detective as the protagonist. And in turn, according to the subdivisions it proposes, it has the constant of the detective-investigator novel, memorable character for its cunning or other characteristics.

What generated a break between the classic novel and the black police novel is that the crime becomes the central theme, the heart of the story. Everything focuses on why crime. It is the basic issue from which the rest of human conflicts derive. It is not only the crime, but the absolute importance that it has in the story and how all the characters and the clues revolve in relation to him.

The black novel was born in the United States in the second decade of the twentieth century and has as its main particularity the perpetrated crime and competition between criminals and agents of public order. Although it is frequent that it contains some nature of social accusation, the black novel is not interested.

From the end of the 19th century at the beginning of the 20th century, life has changed. Technological advances make radio, cinema and TV require other written communication formats. Adding the changes in the mentality, some revolutionary processes and the 1st World War, a new way of novel arises in the USPlace to action and vitality, adding the psychological factor by being in an increasingly complex and hard society. Giardinelli defines it as the presence of crime, intrigue and suspense, strong orality with a predominance of hard dialogue;vertiginous action;constant irony;and corrosive criticism of customs.

The context where this genre arises is that of an America where the mafias appear due to the smuggling of alcohol by dry law and then is destroyed by the crisis of 29, where strikes and unemployment reigned was very high. Quite the opposite of anterior well -being times. You didn’t have to invent a complex reality. It was enough to look outside and include it in the stories. There is a social conscience in stories.

Samuel Dashiell Hammett was an American writer of the subgenre of black novels, short stories and film scripts, apart from political activist. Among the most remembered characters he created is Sam Spade.

For its beginnings, in that time and space, the black novel used to have characters from criminals and detectives and located on the scenario of the great depression and dry law, in a usually dark and miserable urban context in which violence reigned. Hammett used a style of reviewing the characters and scenes that were real in that context of the dark city product of the depression of 29.

The importance of the facts, the aridity of the dialogues and the insinuation in terms of clarifying the motivations of the crimes committed, give their story a type of effect in which moral ambiguity is indirectly read. He does not judge or propose solutions, he only includes in his story what he sees of reality itself.

conclusion

The framework revolves more around the crime and the criminal, wrapped in mystery, than of the detective. The researcher usually has an overwhelming temperament, and is usually removed from order forces. Among the individuals surrounding the detective are always the protagonist’s assistants, who are usually direct collaborators, police or witnesses and are also the opponents, complicit in the crime or the offender.

Presentation of dialogues that are a sampling of the jargon of the city where history takes place. Black gender is a genre that does not describe, but is centralized more in facts and dialogues. The narrative is very important and the conversations are important, influence and efficacy in history. The reader has no front about the researcher, the reader is as close to discovering the enigma as the other. The tracks are not usually very evident, but towards the end of the story. Invariably there are crimes, threats and murders in black police officers. Violence is always present.

It is not characteristic that there is a loving plot, but if it is, it is accessory to the primary history. The environments are usually bleak as a reflection of the mysterious and oppressive space that predominates. The motive of the crime is usually personal. For all this we can say that this story named Spade is a novel of the black police genre because it meets all the features set forth.
